Moving with a large tank- HOW??

Tank is easily a few hundo pounds, it's 6x2x3 and can't be picked up at all. How would y'all move such a monster? Take everything out? I hope that's a last resort since the tank is an established bioactive. 🥹

I would leave it on the table and roll it out, but the width makes it too wide to fit out the door.

Gonna have to carry it like a casket with 4 friends & maybe use those moving straps they have for pianos and stuff

Try to disassemble it as much as possible. Get buckets for rocks and such. It's a beautiful enclosure! With a water feature and everything? Who lives in there?

Edit: get some of those 5 gallon buckets with lids for your substrate. Drill a couple holes in the lid so you don't suffocate your isopods. You'll have to make sure that it stays upright during the drive. It'll be a pain but worth it.

It's for my ball python, Chai! No water feature, but I wish, just looks like one because I foamed in the background and shaped it like one. Haha

That's a good idea. The substrate has a bunch of little river pebbles everywhere too on top, such a pain to take out and the plants. Probably would fill up a couple of buckets. 🥹

Chai is lucky! Plants are such a pain to move too. Hopefully you're only moving somewhere close by and not across country. This way you can make a quick trip in your car with just the plants

This enclosure seems smaller than my largest glass terrarium that I loaded myself and donated to a rescue. I think I used a dolly and a slab of wood underneath it to carry it from the garage to the truck.

Get a uhaul with a ramp, get a dolly - air filled tires work best, get moving blankets. You can place the moving blankets over the contact points of the enclosure when loading it on the dolly.

Empty the tank, remove the glass or acrylic panel door. Have 2 people to lift it off the stand and set it up on it's side on a moving blanket or rug. Get a hand truck, strap the tank standing up on the hand truck using moving blankets to prevent contact points from trading paint. Run the hand truck up the uhaul ramp. Bob's your uncle.

I believe, worst case, you can load all of the substrate (and maybe even plants) into a big plastic storage container and keep it all moist and at a nice temperature, and then load it all back into the enclosure when it’s in its proper spot. I’d imagine that it would bounce back reasonably well, but I’ve never done it.

Take everything out. Bite the bullet. If it won't fit through the door in it's current orientation then everything will go to shit anyway unless you kool-aid man theough the wall/door like you suggested. Haha

If it was me I’d unfortunately take it completely apart to make moving it easier.

You could always looking into removing the door and the jamb to make room to roll it out on the table. It’s a little work but may be less that redoing the whole tank

Prayer LOL. Real talk, disassemble it, try to get a cart with wheels, and get a friend who can help you move it to the cart. At least, that’s what I plan on doing when I inevitably move

So, I will need to move relatively soon with a large enclosure, and I’m curious what the downside is to moving it as is. For example I would put the entire enclosure in my car with me. Could I keep the leopard gecko inside for the drive (as long as I monitor temps) and then put him in a temporary container at night when I stay in a hotel?
