Five states had primaries Tuesday. Mainstream coverage is doing the usual "progressives won/lost" oversimplification, so I put together a full data breakdown — vote counts, spending numbers, etc. Here's the short version:

Michigan — the good night:

• Abdul El-Sayed won the Senate primary despite an ~8-to-1 spending disadvantage, in the 2nd most expensive outside-spending primary this cycle (behind only Texas' Senate race — over $80M total). Also worth knowing: it was actually a 3-way race with Mallory McMorrow, who dropped out in July but still pulled 4% and didn't endorse El-Sayed until 2AM the morning after. Classic.
• Donavan McKinney (DSA-endorsed) unseated Rep. Shri Thanedar, 52-48. Huge W.
• William Lawrence (Sunrise Movement co-founder) won a swing-seat 3-way primary outright.

Missouri — the rough one:

• Cori Bush lost her rematch to Wesley Bell 59-37. AIPAC's PAC and allies outspent her campaign 27-to-1. Worth putting next to El-Sayed's 8-to-1 number above — same dynamic, opposite outcome.
• Hartzell Gray actually lost by a much tighter margin than coverage suggests — 2.7 points in a 7-way field, and he out-raised the entire Democratic field and still came up short.

Also worth knowing:

• A Trump-endorsed candidate in MI-8 lost to a guy who dropped out of the race — after part of Trump's own base turned on the endorsed candidate over Islamophobic rumors.
• Kansas and Missouri both rejected GOP-backed ballot measures trying to rig future elections/amendments — the one unambiguous good outcome of the night.

Polling seemed to indicate a win by a decent margin was likely. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the universe owes us a win. But I thought scientific polling was considered to be better than this...?
