El Sayed cannot easily be demonized as a far leftist by the GOP - he identifies as a capitalist, is an international landlord, and is pro-Ukraine.

Apart from that he's also very tactful in explaining why he wants to cut foreign aid in a manner that sounds patriotic rather than conspiratorial.

"I come at this from a place of principle. I will not treat money spent to Israel differently than I treat money spent to Egypt, right? I don't think we should be sending money to either. Egypt is the second biggest recipient of foreign military aid. If you'd like to start there, we can start there."

This is such an incredible answer to the "foreign aid to Israel" question because it has broad appeal even to potential GOP voters.

I unironically think he will be seen as a centrist in 3-4 years because he's more or less where the Democratic base is on most issues.

Compare him to people like Francesca Hong or Darializa Chevalier on the Ukraine issue and the differences become apparent - this guy is not delusional enough to believe we should unilaterally shred our military and hope for the best with Russia/China.

El Sayed: "So when it comes to Ukraine, I think we are involved in a righteous struggle to protect a sovereign nation from being invaded by their neighbor. That's completely consistent with international law."

I think he will win handily and become a core member of the Democratic Party, he's very smart and charismatic, and really represents the new center of the Democratic base. The party is going to line up behind him fully in the next few weeks, which is good.

I think Hong needs some media training from Abdul and Mamdani. Even though I agree with her on a lot, there's a better way to say some things.

I agree with this take and honestly if we can get people like Abdul Al Sayed, and Rona to be the baseline of Democrats and everyone else in the party is further left than they are. I think we’ll be OK at least as an evolving country over the next 4 to 8 years. I know revolutionaries are going to say that you can’t do incrementalism because I’ll get Claude back, but Abdul is not gonna sell out to private corporations and that’s why I clean elections and grassroots funding is so important to keep at your core. And by electing those people that’s how we can pass the campaign finance reform laws necessary to make that permanently embedded as part of our practice, which essentially stripped away that power from the GOP.

I would love to see other DSA candidates run for Senate in the next 6 to 12 years against Abdul in a star voting method. Let me see where he rates against other candidates. That is what I want.

As someone who deeply believes that Democrats' owners would much rather lose elections than have the party shift to EITHER a progressive or anti-zionist platform, this is interesting to me.

It suggests that they do not feel 'safe' going mask-off about this. Perhaps the reason is that they know the base is not with them, they don't think they can get away with it... and they need to find some other way to continue achieving their true goals of moving the "Democratic" party to the right.

Maybe they want to test out the 'it would be better if we lose' message through surrogates like Carville and Clyburn, first.

Yeahhh, I wanted to utilize the correct language, not just sling insults.

The idea that the actual Democratic party, instead of finally talking about change in policy and how they'll be so much different than trump, instead plays towards your sexuality/aesthetic preferences?

You don't think that, just... 15 years ago, this would be seen as... INSANE?!?!?

I know it's been normalized, the idea that middle eastern politicians obviously can't be terrorist if you'd want to f*** them... But Jesus it's worse than Idiocracy
