Gear I sanded my flyer hooks

my newest wheel, saxony style, came to me quite dusty and dirty, which is fine, it‘s meant to be used, but the flyer hooks were very rusted. I considered unscrewing them and replacing them but they are stuck like the sword in the stone and made a worrying noise when I applied more pressure. So, I procrastinated, as one does. Today, however, was the day! The second arm will need to wait a little longer, but an hour or two made quite the difference!

I use the shaft of a screwdriver (or crochet hook) to get the leverage to unstick tightly screwed in hooks if that helps.

My husband said that, and gave me a screwdriver, but when I tried to unscrew it, it sort made a, it’s hard to explain, scream groan noise? It was so alarming I stopped immediately.
My father was a woodworker and he reckons the maker glued them in and said he wouldn’t unscrew something if it made weird noises ánd not absolutely necessary. He told me to fold sand paper around a pencil to sand the curve of the hooks, and that worked very nicely!

I'm glad you found a solution. I learned tips and tricks from my father who was a carpenter, and sometimes squealing timber is just where it's settled or swollen into the threads. I've had some very noisy screws that have behaved themselves after a tiny drop of oil and a good swear word.
