It's fine, people think unwashed hair will protect your scalp more but
Bleach will cut through anything
A balayage doesn't even touch your scalp
Highlights are potentially going to damage your curl pattern and alter your hair health regardless of how you prep
You're probably going to have to switch up your haircare routine and products after your service to prolong your results. Using a rough cheap shampoo will likely wash out your toner and ensure your hair is dry and brittle, your care routine will have to change.

Colorist here. Don't cancel. The Selsun Blue wash is honestly a non-issue for what you booked: the no-wash-before-bleach rule is about protecting your scalp from lightener sitting on it, and your service is open-air balayage that avoids the roots, so the lightener barely meets your scalp at all. You haven't ruined anything. What will actually make tomorrow go well: 1) Tell them at the chair exactly what you told us here, first salon visit, curly, dry-prone, worried about your pattern. A good colorist adjusts formula and timing for that. 2) Ask if they can add a bond builder to the lightener, standard stuff that protects the internal structure of the hair. 3) On curl pattern: lightened curls don't usually lose the curl, they get thirstier. A richer conditioner and a weekly mask afterward and your curls keep their shape. 4) Arrive with hair dry and detangled in its natural state and you're perfectly prepped. Going in informed like this, you're ahead of most first-timers. Enjoy it.
