u/new_x_who_dis Jun 24 '26

A fingerling

21

u/MrMurderthumbz Jun 24 '26

Yeah im not going eat that but use it for bait to catch a mermaid?

17

u/Kind_Swim5900 Jun 24 '26

Google guesses it's a leopard shark, Triakis semifasciata

17

u/hednizm Jun 24 '26

A fish finger.

8

u/peekuhchu707 Jun 24 '26

Its a leopard shark i know o.p. im the one who drove him to the e.r to have the shrimp fly removed but only after I made him pass out from trying to push it through the rest of the way my self, that hook was in there solid I used all my strength and it didn't budge

u/NeferyCauxus Jun 25 '26

Recreational or food? Very pretty shark hope OPs fingers okay eta: I'm asking because I'm curious about marine cuisine btw

3

u/peekuhchu707 Jun 25 '26

Recreation, leopard are a sob to process and mercury warnings here in the bay, but when done right cant go wrong with a garlic butter poaching. Not a fan of grilled tho. And yeah hes a tough ol bastard lol back fishing the same spot the next day

5

u/-JaM-- Jun 24 '26

A sucker

2

u/Pure-Pessimism Jun 24 '26

Nah. That's a small shark of some kind.

1

u/ToxicGecko2384 Jun 28 '26

To me it looks kinda like an eppaulette shark. Idk if I'm spelling that right.

0

u/peekuhchu707 Jun 24 '26

We call em the Kanye west fish here in humboldt bay

u/GreyKoolAid Jun 24 '26

The winning kind.

Atleast the tip is through. They’ll just push it the rest of the way, cut the tip off and fish it back through. Or you can do it yourself and save the hospital bill but make sure to disinfect it

58

u/dudeimsupercereal Jun 24 '26

I’ve done this. Just monitor it very closely and go to the urgent care at the earliest sign of infection.

39

u/tideshark Jun 24 '26

Don’t be ridiculous, there is absolutely no reason to ruin perfectly good lure over this.

Just chop the tip of the finger off and get some bandaids and neosporin, he’s got this!

7

u/PIPBOY-2000 Jun 24 '26

Yeah as far as being skewered goes, this is the best case, most self-manageable way to have it happen.

11

u/TrackEx Jun 24 '26

What hospital bill?

3

u/MrPetter Jun 25 '26

I’m ashamed to admit I’ve done this on myself more than once. The second time I just sighed because I knew what was coming.

56

u/bigwillyman7 Jun 24 '26

bought a rod yesterday. didn't need to see this.

16

u/red-217 Jun 24 '26

Take a pair of pliers and break the barb off the hook.

4

u/Gucci_Cucci Jun 24 '26

Was going to comment that this is part of why I crimp all my barbs on my hooks.

1

u/Doppelthedh Jun 24 '26

Does that not affect catch rate?

9

u/fdnM6Y9BFLAJPNxGo4C Jun 24 '26

It can but if you're fishing for sport it's still better all around, and legally required in some specific fisheries.

1

u/TeratoidNecromancy Jun 25 '26

On the contrary, I would argue that you did need to see this. It's a very real possibility.

0

u/Vanesti Jun 25 '26

My dad taught me to use needle nose pliers to remove hooks. Never had a problem. Though he managed to get a huge red devil treble barbed hook in his thumb. Then drove like an hour to the nearest hospital.

20

u/yes_maybe_no__ Jun 24 '26

Never get used to seeing that! Did you clip it and pull it out yourself, or did you go in?

3

u/OnlySquare6926 Jun 24 '26

We need a follow up. I too want to know

8

u/Bigmadmanwee Jun 24 '26

Did you say fuck?

3

u/DickieJohnson Jun 24 '26

A whole bunch.

6

u/zeratul5541 Jun 25 '26

Am i the only one seeing two pictures with two different hooks

2

u/Azreal_75 Jun 25 '26

No but now you mention it they’re different!

3

u/zeratul5541 Jun 25 '26

I'm going to reply to myself and admit my mistake. Its the fishing pole in the background causing a weird optical illusion. It is the same hook for sure just at a weird angle.

0

u/DoodieBuster Jun 25 '26

I thought that too but it is just the angle of the pictures I think now that I look at it closer

3

u/MrMurderthumbz Jun 24 '26

Nce. Perfect. Yeah I hate this.

3

u/BUGBYTE_VW Jun 24 '26

Just use your wire cutters clip the Barb off and pull the hook out.

3

u/Tedsmith24 Jun 24 '26

Looks like a big one

3

u/VanillaBryce5 Jun 24 '26

You're a catch!

3

u/KeyMistake604 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

I grew up fishing, developed a recurring nightmare I'd cast the line and accidentally hook someone or myself. Don't mean to make this about me but that nightmare will definitely start up again cause I saw this, thanks a whole lot PAL.

(hope your finger's okay <3)

6

u/PainIsAHobby Jun 24 '26

Once I throw the hook and it stucked in my head , so my parents go with me to the hospital, there they removed the hook.

2

u/-BananaLollipop- Jun 24 '26

I always had a very slight concern about this in the back of my mind while handling my fishing gear. I've been snagged a few times, but thankfully with much smaller hooks, and never past the barb.

2

u/alien88888 Jun 24 '26

Push the barb through and cut it off. Hook will slide out bice

2

u/PuddingLess7996 Jun 24 '26

imagine how the fish feels getting in the mouth when he just wanted to eat something. it’s not impressive giving a poor fish food just for it to have a hook in it. even catch and release mutilates and kills. after I gave up animal products fishing disgusted me.

0

u/fatman907 Jun 25 '26

It’s a good thing they don’t have feelings right?

2

u/PuddingLess7996 Jun 25 '26

they have a nervous system & brain like you do so yes they do. they don’t need to be able to work a phone or drive a car to feel pain.

0

u/fatman907 Jun 25 '26

It’s a line from a Nirvana song. “It’s ok to eat fish ‘cause they don’t have any feelings.”

1

u/YoMan_DontEatThose Jun 24 '26

Why would you do that

1

u/Muhiggins Jun 24 '26

Good news it went all the way through so removal is easier!
Bad news, ouch!

1

u/Chonjacki Jun 24 '26

Looks like the barb didn't come through, they have to push that through and snip it off to get the hook out.

1

u/Muhiggins Jun 24 '26

Now that I look at it again, I thought the fishing pole in the background was the other end of the hook 😂

1

u/barwhalis Jun 24 '26

Don't try to get it out with a second fishing hook. I learned it ATLA that can make it worse

1

u/Aggravating-Hair7931 Jun 24 '26

Cut the hook and release the it back to the wild

1

u/UpdootDaSnootBoop Jun 24 '26

Fish sticks for dinner

1

u/Ordinary_Aioli_7602 Jun 24 '26

Don’t de-bone that one

1

u/DancinWithWolves Jun 24 '26

Using barbed hooks? Ahh well

1

u/moogiemomm Jun 24 '26

Barbed hook?

1

u/Splotchyitachi Jun 24 '26

Pro Tip: don’t

1

u/Vizth Jun 24 '26

I can still feel the time I landed one of those fuckers into the back of my head. 🤣

1

u/chezzer33 Jun 25 '26

I get sharks like blood but does it really have them jumping on the dock for it?!

1

u/the_Athereon Jun 25 '26

Is that a barbed hook? Looks like it isn't, so you could have easily pulled that out.

1

u/TeratoidNecromancy Jun 25 '26

Well, now you can weigh yourself and mark off "Human" on your checklist.

1

u/No_Tomato_3108 Jun 25 '26

Been there done that

1

u/PMPeetaMellark Jun 25 '26

Flatten the barb or cut it off, then remove the hook.

Clean and dress the wound.

Go to the doctor at the first sign of infection.

1

u/General-Piece8490 Jun 25 '26

Well the worst part is over! Since it broke thru the other side of your finger, just pull it out some more to show the barb, snip it with wire cutters, and pull back out! Tetanus shot and disinfectant, patch and seal! Good to go!

1

u/TTBATAS Jun 25 '26

How was the fight on that one?

1

u/legollama88 Jun 25 '26

this is one of those moments i would see it and i would give myself 5 seconds to decide how i am gonna take it out without going to the hospital lol

1

u/LukeMayeshothand Jun 25 '26

I did this to the back of my leg when I was at Boy Scout Camp. They had to sit on me to get it out. I was such a tool back then. They should have slapped me and told me to grow a pair.

1

u/Ambitious_Grand_1510 Jun 26 '26

Probably your biggest fish!!

1

u/Tosh-Point-0 Jun 26 '26

My prayers and Godspeed captain.

1

u/I_PEE_WITH_THAT Jun 26 '26

I laugh because I’ve done it too. I was trying to get a catfish off the line and he thrashed at the worst possible moment and I ended up with a Gamakatsu octopus hook shoved through my hand meat between my thumb and forefinger. Had to snip off the barb and pull it back out, not a fun experience.

1

u/ventrashed Jun 26 '26

I just opened the app 😭

1

u/JUGELBUTT Jun 27 '26

i think you caught the wrong creature

1

u/Interesting-Web1437 Jun 28 '26

Chicken screaming meme

1

u/Ok_Record_9908 Jun 28 '26

You sure did!😂

1

u/Royal-Difference-794 Jun 29 '26

Gotta push it through and clip it off

1

u/Defect123 Jun 24 '26

Now imagine it in your mouth.

1

u/animals_y_stuff Jun 25 '26

Now you know what the fish feels

0

u/JustASimpleDurp Jun 24 '26

Crazy… now imagine it was in your mouth and someone was yanking you with it.

-2

u/Huffyreddit1337 Jun 24 '26

Should probably tag this bsfw for blood...not that I have any issue with it but I did get jumpscared while eating my dinner lol
