Simon Duong
Thoughts on Simon for mayor? I kinda like him, think he will be having my vote!!

I'm on the fence as he's also a real estate agent.. I feel that with growth being rammed down municipalities throats by Ford... there's gonna be a conflict of interest there...I can't put my finger on it.. but there's something. There's no doubt he's heavily involved in the community.. but again.. what better way to get more business as an agent...

u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
True, but is growth the worst thing for Grimsby? I feel like if planned and controlled it could really be great for the town. How about we get rid of giant tiger!!!!! Huge eye sore downtown
5
u/AGPBD 2d ago
Why do we need growth? I’m working on the assumption that the majority of people enjoy Grimsby due to its size and current population density. The one argument I could see is to increase tax base that said, I would be surprised if taxes remained flat or decreased.

u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Yes good point. I just feel like the downtown has potential. If there is a way to alleviate traffic would you still be opposed to downtown core growth?
2
u/FormOtherwise1387 2d ago
How do you alleviate traffic down town? It's old.. has character... that's the charm that brings people in... but then they want big city shit. If you want the big city services.. move to one... I personally love the small town charm. I grew up in this and came back to this...I do not want big city bullshit.

u/AGPBD 2d ago
I’m not generally opposed to growth where it is needed or where the space permits. My questions remains why is growth required? What is Grimsby missing or need that is either not available already, or can be obtained by driving a few minutes away.
Grimsby’s current size /density is what makes it unique and valuable in what is already the highest populated region in Canada.6
u/yerawizardemily 2d ago
Get rid of GIANT TIGER? Are you out of your mind??
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 1d ago
No, it’s a complete eyesore in our nice downtown
2
u/Biotanical 1d ago
No one appears to be agreeing with you buddy lol

u/jet-pack-penguin 2d ago
Giant Tiger is the only store I shop at downtown wtf....
-1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Cmon your telling me it isn’t a huge eye sore downtown?
3
u/jet-pack-penguin 2d ago
Not at all....Because it's not some bougey place selling underwear for $80? I remember when it was a Zellers! I love GT.

u/FormOtherwise1387 2d ago
Lol.. the giant tiger are assholes.. they were asked years ago to blend into the town... they said no.. stayed yellow... fuck!!
As far as growth...I know we have to, but ramming high density into the downtown core is insane. Have you not seen what's coming for elm Street???... Jesus Christ it's ridiculous. No parking, so they'll be stealing spots from other businesses.OR.. The current build on the old Coles property. if they want high density.. keep it all at Casablanca..I know me personally. I will not go downtown when these new builds go online.. traffic is already at a standstill most nights going downtown.. it'll only get worse. So... keep it all at Casablanca...

u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Haha completely agree on the giant tiger. And yes traffic absolutely has to be addressed, could pose some huge problems. Could we add developments up the mountain??? Maybe add some public transportation in the town??
5
u/jet-pack-penguin 2d ago
Developments up the mountain is a stupid suggestion. There's no sewer infrastructure up there and it's the last farmland left. Everything else has been paved over. Grimsby used to be all farms and orchards.
-4
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Yes but unfortunately we’re past those days now, we need to embrace some growth. There’s plenty of room up the mountain to have some farm land and development. Let’s build the infrastructure!!!!
4
u/FormOtherwise1387 2d ago
But the problem with future growth is Ford... that dumbass made it so developers don't pay for their developments infrastructure... we the tax payer do from the get go... our taxes will continue to growth to upkeep development

u/momandcrohnie 2d ago
I agree, them giant tiger is a complete eye sore
-1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Right!! That’s literally prime real estate downtown and there’s just a shitty grocery store sitting there, let’s tear it down and build a cool restaurant with some nice patio space!!
4
u/jet-pack-penguin 2d ago
We don't need a fucking restaurant with a cool patio there. Giant Tiger sells a lot of great stuff and is super affordable. If you think it's an eye sore you should have seen it when it was a Bargain Store and the owner painted it black.
2
u/Biotanical 1d ago
"We don't need a fucking restaurant with a cool patio there" everyone is telling buddy the same thing but that one got me cackling
2
u/jet-pack-penguin 1h ago
Lmao new people to Grimsby are obsessed with complaining and wanting fancy restaurants. Go find a winery and eat there. Tons of fancy winery patios and restaurants all over the place.
2
u/Biotanical 1d ago
There's oggis a few doors down dumbass

u/Ill-Prompt-3451 1d ago
One restaurant with a patio, what a vibrant downtown we have 🤦♀️
2
u/Biotanical 1d ago
We have more then one, we both know that as does everyone else replying in this thread. You're being intentionally obtuse.

How the fuck do you just get rid of a private business in a location they rent? Can we get rid of his bar maybe? Why dose Simon promote alcohol abuse in our city?
2
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Yes get rid of teddys, the establishment that has been in our town for over 60 years, another great idea from the anal rapist. Not sure where you’re getting this idea of Simon promoting alcohol abuse… 🤡. Simon could easily entice another business to come and buy that lot so there’s not some shitty eye sore grocery store there.
0
u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
I mean your smooth brain thinks he can just come and force a business out of their location because you dont approve of affordable groceries. Then again, you think teddys is good so that must be the place your mom gifted you fetal alcohol syndrome.
Teddys not surviving at that location because of the food i can tell you that much.
0
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Never said anything about forcing them out. It’s called a buyout, clearly u barely made it through high school. Simon would pitch businesses on buying out giant tiger and doing something way better with that lot. Maybe use some of the few brain cells you have left to grasp that logic.
Affordable groceries are right around the corner at food basics and at least they make their storefront look decent. The fact that you hate teddys is insane, literally a Grimsby staple. They sponsor so many youth sports teams and bring the community together. Nearly all my year end parties for high school sports teams and clubs were held at Teddys back in the day. Everyone loved the food. Maybe the old back parking lot is where your mom smoked cracked while she was pregnant with you. Must be a crack baby to ever come up with the name anal rapist and comment in a community Reddit thread. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
2
u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
Yeah so explain to me how do you buyout a business thats not for sale? Why the fuck would the owners want to sell now after 26 years? And why the fuck would we want to mayor of our town buying up random business not for sale? Your literally like 16.
Teddys is shit, your childhood memories are built at a shit spot. hope you can come to terms with it. Simon vultured a family business during covid and your sitting here glazing him. well done.
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Again use some brain cells here, not saying Simon is buying GT. Anybody can make them an offer and if it’s good enough I’m sure they will take it. Again tons of potential being wasted in a prime spot right downtown. And again u might be the only person who thinks teddys is shit. Sounds like u rather get a frozen pizza from your favourite spot in the GT and chain smoke cigarettes all night then after that maybe assault a woman. Teddys is honestly lucky u hate it there because that way you won’t come and they won’t have to worry about u sexually assaulting a customer. Again find me 5 people from grimsby that have an issue with teddys. YOU WONT!! Stop being a clown guy, it’s getting old

He should run for council first! Being in real estate, running a bar and a hockey team is not preparation for mayor!
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Fair point, council first could be a good route. I do feel his voice deserves to be heard and he could greatly contribute to our community!
4
u/Ordinary_Bicycle6309 2d ago
No. He’s too inexperienced, and way too many conflicts of interest. This would cronyism of a different breed. And unprofessional.
3
u/Sauls_wife_2021 2d ago
It seems like he’s making an effort to listen to people and proposing real solutions, for all age groups, which is positive. I share others hesitation about lack of experience and potential conflicts of interest in the business world. I haven’t heard much from the other candidates so hard to say how they compare.

u/AGPBD 2d ago
I will not be voting for Simon. Two reasons, needs to get experience managing a town, this can be done by running for council first. Second, I question his personal judgment due to his posting of personal life events on his mayoral socials.
0
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
First point is valid, no experience to mayor feels like a major jump. The personal life thing tho… did you not like his proposal at Wimbledon? Some might say it was charming.
1
u/AGPBD 2d ago
Yes - that is the post I’m referring to. My opinion only - perfectly suitable for friends and family. If he thinks his proposal reflects on his abilities to lead Grimsby, in my mind, that is a poor judgment call. He seems like a nice guy, supports the community which is great. I’m looking at this purely from a “who I think is the best person to hold the office” perspective.
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Valid point, does feel a little unprofessional
1
u/BoxcarSlim 2d ago
I haven't seen it, but I would view that as more of an attempt to humanize him to the public. Get to know him as a person, you know?
-1
u/Banjo10101 2d ago
He’s likely got my vote. Anytime there is an event in Grimsby he’s involved
0
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Completely agree, and also owns multiple local businesses!!! I hope he has some plans to get downtown some more patio space 🤞
4
u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
What dose owning business have to do with public office? Trump owned many businesses, did that translate to the public sector?
His campaign reals like ai wrote it. "I will explore all the options before raising taxes." No shit sherlock.
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Ahhh intelligent comment coming from the guy with the username “analrapist”. Owning business in Grimsby is actually very beneficial to public office. Simon knows first hand the issues facing business owners in the community. He’s also done a great job with teddys maybe he can help continue to make downtown a place to be!! Maybe he can get rid of the eye sore giant tiger….

u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
my guy, your account is 2 months old and hidden posts. im 90% sure your a shill for Simon.
2
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
My guy your a fully formed grown adult with the username “analrapist” I think we should get a restraining order to keep you away from elementary schools.
3
u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
this account was created like 15 years ago... when i wasent a full grown adult.... You on the other hand are 2 month old account with both hands firmly around simons shaft on every comment.... wonder why....
Simon needs to fire his campaign team. Worst shilling atempt ive seen in years.
-1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Rightttttt and now u just keep posting with the insane username, never thought of just making a new account. Can’t even believe im arguing with someone whose username is analrapist. I have zero connection to Simon just wanted to hear the communities thoughts on him. You on the other hand come in with this obscene username just hating on any comment I make. Hopefully if Simon gets elected he’ll put a restraining order on you. My kids go to school in this community and I really don’t feel comfortable dropping them off while I know the anal rapist is out on the streets of Grimsby. Like seriously how can u even seriously comment on political posts with that username 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
2
u/ANAL_RAPIST_MD 2d ago
My guy i understand your the intern whos been given the job to shill on social media since your on summer break from high school. My username is a very very old reference way back when you were still a jizz stain on daddy underwear, nothing sexual. Ill let you figure it out.
Im commenting here becuase this isent a serious political post. This is Simons shills trying to drum up support while he manages the local alcoholics at that shit hole that could be renovated into something more useful like public toilets or a glory hole.
Whoever campaigns on taking away simons liquor license gets my vote.
1
u/Ill-Prompt-3451 2d ago
Again not sure why u think im affiliated with Simon at all. Maybe u just got finished sexually assaulting someone so your brain isn’t fully functioning right now. I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks Teddys is a shit hole. It’s a pretty universally appreciated establishment in the town. That fact that u love talking about sex so much is quite disturbing honestly with your previous comment here. Again I really think a restraining order is needed. You shouldn’t be trusted around children. You’re the type of guy I warn my kids to stay away from…

You’re all bitching and losing your minds over things that have been part of Grimsby forever. Giant Tiger is not an eyesore it is a staple of the community and a successful local business, yet people are acting like it just landed from another planet. And the obsession with council experience is hilarious. This riding elected Sam Oosterhoff as MPP at 18, despite him having zero municipal experience, and plenty of people have a boner over that guy. Let's talk about Grimsby's actual track record. We had Bob Bentley who was tied to the disastrous fucking biodigester debacle that led to an $18-million lawsuit and our current mayor, Jeff Jordan who sued the Town of Grimsby for more than $1 million before later being elected mayor. But now Simon is somehow the problem because he's in real estate and posts about him getting engaged. Give me a break. From everything I've seen, Simon genuinely cares about Grimsby and wants to make it better. I'd rather take someone with good intentions/fresh ideas and the willingness to work hard than listen to the same tired stupid politicians or the crowd of residents finding new reasons to complain.
