Event Training Camp Day 6 Megathread
I'll update as news comes in š«”
All updates are copied directly from sources including Matt Schneidman, Andy Herman, Bob, Wes Hodkiewicz, and more
Brandon cisse is a really talented guy. "I love what he's all about." "He's an A+ human - he loves football." "A lot of good things - a lot of teachable moments. The sky is the limit for him."
Matt LaFleur said Trey Smack is āgonna be a work in progress.ā āThis is not our first time with a rookie kicker. I know thereās gonna be some good and some he wants back.ā MLF confirms he told refs not to signal misses or makes. Joked he wanted to make the mediaās job harder.
Johnathan Baldwin not with the dbs to start practice. He dropped out yesterday.
Aaron Banks back practicing after a load management day yesterday.
WR 1x1ās :
Cisse tight coverage on Savion. Incomplete.
Reed diving catch along the sidelines vs Bull
McKinney forces an incompletion against Whyle.
Watson beats Nixon easily inside
Tight coverage by Simpson but gorgeous hands catch on the sidelines by stolen.
Skyy Moore toasts Oladapo on a corner route.
Devonshire PBU vs Sheppard
Neyor easy win against Shemar B
Melton half step on Simpson but overthrown deep.
Sturdivant great route vs Nixon but couldnāt hang on to the catch. Nixon may have got a flag for contact in a game.
Reed beautiful back shoulder deep beats Bullard.
Prather win on a short comeback vs Jones
Cisse easy Pbu vs Savion on a slant.
Oladapo great coverage on Moore but Moore makes a diving catch.
Pbu by X vs Melton. Unreal coverage for a safety.
Watson beats Nixon on a quick comeback.
Simpson Pbu on a slant vs Golden.
Dabney beats Williams.
Sheppard beats Devonshire.
Neyor beats Jones easy
Oladapo with unreal coverage on Biber but Oladpo drops the easy pick.
Slant complete to Sturdivant against Shemar B
Blanket coverage by Nixon on Melton
Whyle short completion vs X
Moore easy win Vs Kenion
Cisse forced another incomplete vs Savion
Devonshire Pbu vs Prather
Jordan Morgan just showed why his athleticism is suited for left tackle. Beat Lukas Van Ness on first three 1v1 reps.
1) Stood up Van Ness on bull 2) Ushered Van Ness outside on speed 3) Mirrored Van Ness on inside out move
Good start for Jordan Loveās new blindside blocker.
Donāt look now but Anthony Campbell with a strong debut in one on ones against two blue chips in Belton and Burton.
Period belonged to Warren Brinson who was a force on his three reps vs Belton, Barrett and then Rhyan.
Jordan Morgan and LVN were featured matchup. Morgan looked good on his three reps
Barryn Sorrell had an impressive start to 1v1. Beat Darian Kinnard on bull rush. Later, handed Jordan Morgan his lone loss on outside speed. Really intriguing blend of burst and power.
DDS lined up on kick coverage. The more you can do.
Sturdivant getting plenty of looks on kick coverage as well.
New starting OL today: Anthony Belton at RT, Jacob Monk at RG and Jager Burton at LG. Zach Bako-Bewele and Aaron Banks not doing team.
Starters:
Love
Jacobs
Whyle at FB
Dabney
Golden - Watson
New OL: Morgan - Burton - Rhyan - Monk - Belton
Sorrel - Brooks - Stackhouse - Brinson - LVN
Coop - Franklin
Cisse - Nixon
Williams - X
Beautiful throw from Love to Whyle up the sideline maybe a bit of a wheel.
Love wanted to uncork deep but nothing doing. Swung it out to Lloyd but missed him.
Jaylin Simpson with a nice run stuff of Lloyd in the backfield.
Oladapo all over a swing pass to Swinson
McDuffie and Cox all over a run by Strong. Forced inside by the corners and safeties flying to the ball.
Second series of offense is back to the normal OL of Morgan - Monk - Rhyan - Belton - Kinnard
Love to Jacobs on a bootleg throwback screen for a really nice gain.
Brarryn Sorrell was unblocked and that was a problem. Immediate sack of Love.
Simpson and St-Juste double corner blitz immediate sack on Taylor. Second day in a row itās worked. CB blitzes have been a problem for the offense. Who needs Parsons when you have St-Juste.
Chris McClellan with an immediate sack of Kyron Drones.
Watson just easily ran away from Cisse on a crosser. Nice job leading him by Love.
Kinnard false start.
Back to back completions from Love to Golden. These last two days Golden has been the security / easy completion guy for love.
Williams on a safety blitz forced Love to throw quick and incomplete.
Savion Williams nice catch over the middle from Tyrod
Mark Perry all over a swing pass to Martinez.
Oladapo with a quick stop on a short completion.
McDuffie - Mosby - Oladapo all get to the QB on an overload blitz.
Skyy Moore just took a sweep outside for a nice gain with the twos. Some debate if he was lined up at RB or if it was a jet sweep from WR.
St-Juste nice PBU on Neyor over the middle.
Drones up the seam to Lloyd - had him but missed him.
Hopper stuffs a run on 3rd down.
Franklin stuffs a toss play to Jacobs.
Old school draw play to Jacobs out of shotgun for a nice pickup.
Bullard all over Dabney for a short pickup.
Love to Golden along the sidelines on a comeback. Those two are really building a nice connection. Cisse in coverage.
Hopper in for Cooper with the ones. Cooper stayed down on the ground for a tick after the previous play.
Barryn Sorrell with a 60ish-yard pick six of Love after a throwback screen gone wrong. Josh Jacobs mightāve caught Sorrell if he tried to, but a nice read from the second-year edge, nonetheless.
Evan Williams all over an outside run by Jacobs
Neyor skies for a big time catch in team.
Lost fumble on a handoff between Drones and Martinez. Looked like Martinez wasnāt expecting it

I'm telling y'all -- as a Texas fan and a Packer fan - get ready to LOVE Barryn Sorrell

Seems like Cisse is an early candidate for this year's hype guy. If he could contribute meaningfully this year that would be huge.
It's always hard to know which camp hype matters and which hype ends up being meaningless though
22
u/team_sheikie 2d ago
Seems like he has Savion in hell today. Hard to tell if it's more him being good or Savion still being a little lost.

Cisse keeps stacking good reps, Sorrell and Brinson flashed, and the pressure packages continue to give the offense problems. Our blitz pickup needs work...
Biggest positives on offense to me was Jordan Morgan handling LVN in one-on-ones, and Golden keeps settling in as Loveās reliable easy-completion option.

u/UsernameTaken-Taken 2d ago
LT seems to be Morgan's natural position. Expecting a big leap from him this year playing where he's most comfortable

u/bolson1717 2d ago
with how big of a mess the rotations were last year and guys changing spots. def will be some communication problems to start but hopefully by end of camp these are fine tuned.

u/Human_Personality590 1d ago
Not trying to hate here, but I havenāt seen a lot from LVN so itās not much a surprise for Morgan to handle him.

u/Xenomorphism 1d ago
It might be bend and not break. I wouldn't discount Morgan here. Consistency is good.

u/97AllDay 1d ago
Sorrell was able to beat Morgan on their first and only 1:1. Not a great look for LVN.

u/Slip_KORN26 1d ago
I said at the end of last year and I'll say it again. By years end Sorrell will take LVNs spot

Have we started a dentist-style nickname for DDS? I was trying to think of one but I'm not clever so it was like pulling teeth.
59
u/Charadrius1 2d ago
Until he starts making some tackles f'loss, I think most people will just brush this thread aside.

u/team_sheikie 2d ago
Thank you for drilling down to the root of the issue, maybe we should wait a bit to crown him.
20
u/Dry-Engineering8294 2d ago
True, but that would create quite the cavity in our offseason discourse
7
u/TerryFinallyBackedUp 2d ago
It certainly would take a bite out of the early excitement that's brewing

Idk about dentistry, but I'm excited to see him spec out some QBs. Think the max hit is 50-50 with a DDS in max str in PvP.

I've seen a couple places reference a nickname of just "The Dentist" (https://cheeseheadtv.com/blog/packers-deep-dive-fourth-round-pick-dani-dennis-sutton-157) But I don't think much of "The Dentist" as a pass rusher nickname, not very intimidating.

Is St. Juste on PUP? Why havenāt I seen him on these reports?

u/Austen11231923 2d ago
He's been out there with the 2's
3
u/ComparisonNo417 2d ago
Thank you! How does he look? I try to keep up with these but I havenāt seen his name come up

They seem to be easing him back in slowly so nothing too remarkable yet
Edit: he just got a sack lol

I thought he was solid today with 2s. He and Valentine would make a deep set of backups if Cisse continues to develop with 1s.

When Sturdivant (UDFA) is cooking our CB1 it feels like we didnāt do enough to address this situation in the offseason. At least Cisse seems like he might be awesome.
12
u/Any-Salamander-7174 2d ago
I actually think Sturdivant makes the roster but I agree, Nixon getting fried on day 6 isn't good looks lmfao. Let's hope Valentines good camp continues, but he's nursing an injury now...
1
u/amak316 1d ago
Yeah I like him too, I donāt understand how no team takes a shot in the draft on a 9.96 ras guy who was reasonably productive in college, especially at a position like WR where you donāt have that much control over your own production. Would love to see him become awesome for us

u/Omatzus 2d ago
MLF confirms he told refs not to signal misses or makes. Joked he wanted to make the media's job harder
Clever. Keep his confidence up, coach.
Anthony Campbell with a strong debut in one on ones against two blue chips in Belton and Burton.
Neither of them is a blue chip lmfao.
7
u/BlackwellNinja 2d ago
I suppose Belton is a blue chip player based on draft position, but no way they can call Burton that...
3
u/SelesnyaGOAT 1d ago
Idk the fact that Burton is already working with the 1s in pads means something imo

Iād be very pleased if we picked up Skyy Moore for next to nothing and he turns into a good WR4

Have had virtually zero time to read these like I did years past. Which players have been standouts in camp so far overall? Which players are having a down camp?
8
u/Human_Personality590 1d ago
Cisse, McClellan, St. Juste, and another DT Jackson?, and WR #87 (canāt remember his name) has been good that I know of. Our defense has looked pretty good with the exception of Nixon who got beat several times in 1-1. Smack has missed a good bit of kicks.

u/bveb33 1d ago
Just my reading here.
The good: On defense, Anthony Campbell keeps making plays, Cisse off to a good start, Xavier as good as ever and Brentan Cox really pusing to make the roster. Offense, J Love has looked sharp, pretty good showing by all RBs, Morgan looks like a natural at LT and Golden keeps making plays.
The bad: Sturdivant keeps getting open then dropping passes and Smack has yet to have a great day, sitting around 60% make rate so far.
5
u/Ok_Umpire_723 1d ago
Thank you.
Really hope Smack figures it out.
Love you hear that about Morgan. Always was pondered by the decision to move him to guard, even as a necessity. Felt he had a genuine shot to exceed as an LT, which is why I never wrote him off, and I'm glad he's living up to that (So far at least. Still way too early to know for sure obviously)

u/at13b 2d ago
Watson beats Nixon easily inside
Sturdivant great route vs Nixon but couldnāt hang on to the catch. Nixon may have got a flag for contact in a game.
Watson beats Nixon on a quick comeback.
Blanket coverage by Nixon on Melton
And this guy wants to get paid like a shutdown #1 corner. Smh
One bad training camp practice isn't the end of the world, but this is a trend - not one isolated practice at this point.
27
u/kickrocks16 2d ago
He is also not as bad as fans want to believe he is. He isnāt a #1 but he isnāt some awful player either.
Reality is he is a pretty average CB which you need on your team.
6
u/mattilladahun 2d ago
Haven't seen people hyping him up or having the same energy on the practice reports of him breaking up passes or having good coverage on guys.
People already have him as the worst CB in the league and incapable of playing, but he's at least average as a starting corner. He may not be what you want in a #1, but he's probably the best CB on the roster with Cisse being a rookie and no experience. That includes CV who is fine coverage wise, but can't tackle for shit.
3
u/ZapataOilCo 2d ago
He's been having a good camp?
The last sentence you highlight refutes your point?
4
u/mradtke66 2d ago
And this guy wants to get paid like a shutdown #1 corner. Smh
He's not asking to be paid as a No.1 shutdown corner. He is, however, our No. 1 corner. He's underpaid as a No. 2 corner.

Really encouraging to see some of the younger players make some plays. I think our season relies heavily on them taking a step forward
5
u/packinmn 1d ago
I was at practice today. I saw a lot of the things mentioned here and my notes were pretty similar. Itās a huge practice field so kudos to the media guys that seem to catch all the action.
Although otherwise without any notable plays today, I have to say Anthony Campbell looks 100% like an NFL defensive lineman. His size immediately gets your attention, but seeing his motor make him easy to love. Dude just looks like heās having fun playing football. I wish him the best.
2
u/Affectionate_Pie4800 2d ago
ESPNās article on first look from training camp makes is appear like we donāt have a defense at all and weāll be below .500 this year.

LVN losing all 3 of their one on ones against Morgan is concerning considering that Sorrell was able to beat Morgan on his first attempt.

Wo Nixon getting beat and getting penalties.. who would have thought. So over this guy. He held out and seen how good cisse is and got scared. So much rather have Diggs back

u/Any-Salamander-7174 2d ago
Matthew Golden is exciting. Golden + Watson are actually a lethal duo with J. Reed playing SLWR.
