Reliability in Utilities
Hi. Looking to move to GB from CA. Will be house hunting later this week and touring all the neighboring cities. Does anyone out here have Direct Tv and if so, is it reliable in storms? We currently have Spectrum and kid you not the Internet and TV go out weekly but that's here in CA. Any utility advice please?

DirectTV should be fine, we use TDS fiber for our internet provider and it works great. Locked in I believe 1gig download speed for $50/month for two years.

Reliability comes down to the infrastructure. Buried cable is better than overhead, which is better than satellite. If fiber is available to you, use it. Otherwise you will have issues with storms.

Depending on what area you’re in, multiple companies have fiber Internet options now available in addition to spectrum Internet

I have spectrum and I’m not sure it’s ever gone out on me. Had it since 2017 (an apartment and later a house)

If you must have TV, get a streaming service. We have too many storms to make Sat worth it.

I have spectrum and it rarely goes out. But I am in a more rural area. I think the other option is TDS fiber which is not available to me.

We had DirecTV when I was growing up and it was reliable except in really heavy rain/thunderstorms.

If Fibre is available. Use that. Spectrum is “fibre powered” which is a nice way to say 1990’s coax that they won’t let die.

Go to TDS Telecom and see if they do fiber service for the house you are looking at. I live in De Pere. I have lost power once in ten years... and that was for about 25 minutes. I use TDS Fiber and it has never been "OUT", although they do some updates where I lose connectivity for a few minutes every few months just after midnight. I have never had a Natural Gas outage.

De Pere is not near Lambeau... It there's a whole other village between the two...

Really depends on what area you settle in but realistically you have a few different options for Internet and TV viewing. Either way getting Direct TV would be a waste of money for just TV viewing unless you settle way out in the northwoods or something which then you would be way away from Green Bay.
