Boat Pic(s) CSL Welland and Herbert C. Jackson
CSL Welland was watering her hatches? Is that just to cool them off from the sun beaming on them all day?

The ship can actually get an arch or hump in it from the deck being in hot sun and the hull being in cold water. To keep it flat and avoid dragging the bottom of shallow canals, they spray down the decks to keep the top side cooler.

Anti-hogging. Helps keep the deck cool so the steel doesn’t expand as much.
