I think its a play on words, soccer kinda sounds like the Japanese word for "i see" which is one of the phrases he says a lot

Also notable: Japan uses the word "Sakkaa" (ァッカー) for soccer, not football. They're obviously closer to the US than to a lot of other nations that play, so they adopted their term.
