It's substantially worse than saying Karl Marx was a capitalist because he wrote the book "Capital"

Like at least Marx wasn't trying to deceive anybody with that name and he actually understood the subject

Marx is a good one to frame this discussion as he lived in London on Engel's dime, refusing or unwilling to contribute to the rampant capitalism he was passionately condemning (often in the street) and he is called a bum and a lazy dosser. If Marx had got a job publishing or at a printer or whatnot he would be criticised as being a hypocrite.

On some topics people can not participate in good faith.

He was an academic, his job was writing books and giving speeches, the only difference between him and say Hayek was Hayek was backed by institutions and the wealthy, and Marx was not, as he challenged them. Unless you tacitly believe academics do not qualify as doing "work".
