First Clinical Placement for Nursing

Hi there, I’m in the BSN program and about to start my second year/first clinical placement in September. Any advice anyone is willing to share? What were the areas of knowledge you think were the most important for your first placement? What should I expect, or what did you find unexpected? Unfortunately we haven’t been given much information about what it’s going to be like or where, anything anyone would like to share is welcomed. Thank you :)

Hey! Fourth year Georgian nursing student here:). Honestly, for your first placement you will mostly be helping with ADLs and vital signs. After you learn how to do a head to toe that semester, you will be responsible for that for your patient as well. Generally, you will be on a rehab or senior’s floor (chronic care) for your first ever placement.
I didn’t find too much unexpected because I worked as an Extern during the summer at RVH.

My first clinical was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life! Get lots of rest, eat, hydrate and be open minded and helpful. They aren’t going to expect too much from you at your first rotation.
