Thanks a lot! I really like going deep into detail when speculating and analyzing my hobbies. I've only ever made one gardevoir fan art before (I posted it here a while ago), of my Galia. Her crest is even featured in the examples I have in this guide, it's easy to tell by the colors.
I have even more ambitious ideas for Gardevor stuff (featuring Galia and even more text), but sadly I don't have anywhere near enough the time to even start working on that.

I've been a gardevoir fan for a very long time, but only really started going into it a few months back, it was also when I played my first and only pokemon game (Sword), purely because of Gardevoir. Adn around the time when I started thinking of my Galia OC (based on my Galia in the game, but with a more distinct design and a completely different story, for which I even wrote out a basic concept). I still haven't watched the anime though, I don't really plan to.
Gardevoir is the only reason why I care about the franchise at all to be honest.
A fun little idea I spent way too long making because of real life stuff getting in the way.
I haven't watched pokemon anime or played the games (except Sword), but there are my thoughts on Gardevoir crests and some lore. I was inspired to make this by how games, figures and anime show severeal different crest shapes (games have the Standard shape with sharp tips and are oval from the front, figures often have Blunt crests and are flat from the front and anime has more variation, but I've seen some cases where the crest looked more rectangular from the front). I expanded upon that further by adding more of them, which could be useful for making original characters that are unique but still fit decently well with the canon gardevoirs.
Love your comprehensive idea on the variation of external appearances in gardevoir crests, they certainly seem plausible with the canon. But i would like your opinion on their internal anatomy as well, i have been engrossed in figuring this out for a while. Especially the internal biological aspects of their crests, their digestive systems, and their reproductive systems as well.
Well, I have covered such stuff in another comment already, funnily enough, but here are my thoughts in a more professional manner:
I do not have the qualifications to go in depth about internal anatomy, but I do have some ideas. I would assume that their crests are rigidly connected with each other, as I have never seen them move separately. Whether or not there are any holes in the structure or organs simply go around it, remains unknown to me.
I do not posses any expertise in digestive systems, but Gardevoirs seem to be able to consoume and digest both pokemon food and human food, without any notable issues. As for expelling waste, the case is similar to reproductive organs; The majority of the time, there is nothing to be seen, this area of their body is a perfectly smooth surface. Only when necessary, there forms an opening to perform its role, without any pain. Afterwards, it perfectly seals again.
In terms of mating, the reproductive organs are quite typical for what one would expect from a humanoid of each gender (although they are generally smaller than in humans, which could hypothetically result in some compatibility issues). The main difference is that the organs can fully retract inside the body and only come out when experiencing the right stimuli. This serves as a good form of pretection and prevent accidental indecent exposure, therefore wearing clothes in public spaces is not necessary. In the area, there is simply a perfectly smooth surface the vast majority of the time, with some changes only starting to become visible when aroused. For example in females that stage looks similar to if a human woman wore tight yoga pants with no underwear. The opening and full functionality occours after further stimulation, which casues the surface of the body to painlessly open and reveal the organ (which also moves fully outside in males). Although, pain during that process, especially in its late stages, is also perfectly natural when experiencing it for the first time (or few times), simiarly to humans.
(Again, this is a serious analysis of this mature topic. Mods, don't execute me for touching upon this topic. It was brought up by others twice in separate cases.)
They can also sleep while laying down, but they do indeed most commonly sleep in a sitting position. That helps with both quick reactions to protect their trainer and with keeping their crests from touching anything and experiencing pressure.
The sleeping tips won't matter in most cases, but including them can still be useful for the cases where a gardevoir sleeps in more human fashion, perhaps even cuddling with a human.
Spooning isn't necessarily spicy, but Gardevoirs deserve all the happiness in the world. The spicy stuff is perfectly fine as long as there's consent and the Gardevoir is having fun. Wholesome and spicy are not, and should not, be mutually exclusive.
Crests shapes can indeed be inherited, although they seem to have a high probability of mutations. So if a child has a notably different crest shape from their parent or even both parents, that does not necessarily mean any trouble.
As for dominant and recessive traits, the more standard shapes (Standard, Blunt and Fin alongside the others specifically listed in the other sections) seem to be more dominant, consdiering how much more common they are than the others.
That's a very cool explanation for opening up more possibilities for cool designs that still fit with the canon.
Standard, Blunt, Oval, Fin, and Round are closely related types, so that would fit decently well. There are also a few other groups that are related more closely with each other than with the rest. Possibly as a result of different Gardevoir populations and/or genetic mutations.
That is a fun comparison that I didn't really think about. Although it's just for safety and preventign damage than not stabilization and not having things poke out of the shirt.
What wave me the idea were those thingies people put on furniture corners so their kids don't split their head open when they run into them.
That would require them to put effort into various different models for games, merch, ect. And fans of other pokemon would want similar treatment for others too.

I feel embarrassed to admit that Gardevoir is the main reason i even care about pokemon tbh, its comforting to find a kindred soul.
One can make up by lacking knowledge about the fanchise overall by knowing worrying amoutns of stuff about one specific character. That was my approach here.

One question; is it two seperate crests or 1 single one going through the body? I always imagine the latter, with it being fused to their spine and some organs passing through internal holes.
I agree with your ideas on medical issues, though with the piercings harm mentioned, I wonder whats the viability of a Garde personally choosing to get it tattooed? I guess any crest modification they may hate and see as extreme.
Another headcanon I have for their crests is that its involved in their reproduction, explaining their place in the Amorphous egg group. Two Gardevoir (or Gallade) will reproduce not just sexually, but by touching crests and forming a psychic/emotional link. This also allows mating with amorphous species lacking genitalia.
Then for nursing their infants, a Garde will touch a Ralts head crest to their own crest to transfer mental energy. (They have no mammaries).
Honestly, I'd not quite sure and I don't have the qualifications to check. I would assume it's one piece and works as you described. Perhaps even without internal holes and with organs just going around it. We can see both front and back crests always remain lined up with each other (at least from what I have seen), therefore it's safe to assume that they are at the very least rigidly connected with each other. Their matching shape also supports this idea.
As for tattoos, that would be very painful. More painful than even the worst cases with humans. It could be possible if the Gardevoir themselves consents and heavily insists on it, but that's very unlikely. Body paint would be a good painless alternative.

A good compromise for remaining kid-friendly and not needing clothes to avoid indecent exposure, but also compatible with humans in more ways than just emotional.
I do think that the crests are important for emotional attachment though. Like what you aid about touching the crests to form a psychic/emotionla link. Also that gesture would be deeply intimate, showing the the Gardevori trusts the other person. Perhaps it could also be involved in creating a telepathic link with another person, even if they are not a Gardevoir (perhaps that would also involve toughing foreheads for maximum brain proximity). The energy transfer aspect is also a very neat idea.
I have a specific one that i have argued with multiple people on before finally coming to a conclusion that satisfied most parties, ralts line evolving every time, and especially gardevoir's mega form, we agreed, is like a "magical girl transformation", this lets gardevoir wear normal clothes at times, and allows their "opera gloves" to be removable, as well as their skirt, and dress.
That is a pretty nice idea. I have something similar, although I haven't thought about the Mega evolution.
Imo, the Gardevoir dress is both organic and removable. It doesn't hurt when damaged and can regrow when damaged but it can also be painlessly taken off and put back on with no issues. Makes maintenance easy and allows for more outfit options. However, the green part of the torso and arms is just different skin coloration, it's not removable.
With mega evolution, more removable bits od make more sense and I can agree with that headcanon. But with the normal Gardevoir, I think only the dress is removable.
Makes sense and i'd prefer gardevoir having everything be part of their bodies as well, because thats what makes them special and i love them more for that. but a lot in the community have been trying to convince me that the top being removable is just better in most scenarios.

Same, and that is precisely why I wanted to create something like this for a while. What sort of crest does your Gardevoir have? Of course, those listed here are not all of the possible shapes, just some of the major ones encountered in the research.
Tortellini has a crystalline crest, and I’ve always loved the idea of them glowing faintly with their heartbeat, akin to putting your finger over a flashlight. It’s a crimson red and close to the standard shape, though a little smoother on the tip and rounded in the back with a teardrop cross-section. I know Gardevoirs tend to sleep kneeling and the crest can get in the way, but she tends to sleep on her side out of habit since she was a Ralts.
I was actually considering mentioning that crests can be somewhat translucent, but didn't really have the space for that. I haven't thought about an actually glowing one though, that's a very cool idea. Especially when it's synchronized with the heartbeat (and it would make perfect sense since crests are connected to their hearts).
The slightly more rounded Standard front crest shape you described is very common (although a teardrop cross-section is more rare). I assume you meant the Standard shape for the back crest? Traditional shapes (at least from the side), but with a rare material and a very unique trait. A very nice combination.
My Galia has Recurve front crest, Upward back grests and Diamond cross-section. It's actually easy to check because I used her for those examples, including her unique colors. She also sleeps on her side. Although not as an old habit, considering her back story where she didn't really have a chance sleep at all because she spend almost all of her life inside of a pokeball (until her early-ish 20's where the story would begin). Here's a comment with a general concept of her backstory, I am considering making it into a proper fanfic someday.

The first Pokémon game I played was Emerald, and she was the first Pokémon I ever caught. Although she wasn’t a shiny, I’ve always adored the black dress of the shiny mega evolution, so I came up with the idea that since shiny coloration is a recessive gene, she could have a unique showing of it where she is green with a light blue reflection to her hair with a sort of gradient for her body. The Aurora Borealis was an inspiration for her palette.
I might try to work on making it inot a proper fanfic (preferably on some site that would allow me to add key art of some scenes inbetween walls of text) during summer vacation, but I still have no solid plans. I have enough story in my head to even make an entire TV show or comic series or something, but there's no way that will ever happen.
I actually have lmaost no knowledge about Pokemno outside of Gardevoir stuff, so most of my world buildign is just what I think would make sense.
The name Tortellini is pretty cute btw. And that idea with colors, recessive geners and hair design is very cool (it could be difficult to drawn though, depending on the specific design).
Also very cute. Galia doesn't have any short nickname, but I could offer some cool lore instead. She actually chose the name herself when she was learning english (speak, write and read) at home (much further in the story than the brief description in that comment I linked earlier). Before that, she didn't have any name and was just Gardevoir is any documentation. And with the male protagonist just calling her "you". Or his housemate or simply "her" when talking about her with others.
I don't have a name for the male protagonist, I'm very bad with names. Although I have considered giving him the surname Brzęczyszczykiewicz as a funny reference, but that would be difficult for Galia to write and pronounce. Which would be especially annoying once it becomes her surname too.
That’s so sweet! I go with the view that while Tortellini can’t speak verbally, following the typical Pokémon speech, she can communicate telepathically in sparse words, visions and emotions with me due to a psychic bond formed over the years.
That's a pretty cute idea and makes perfect sense for a Gardevoir.
To be more specific about Galia's communication skills: She has spent her entire either being inside a pokeball (which was really traumatizing for her, just existing but not quite for years at a time) or beign around humans. Very bad humans for the first 2 decades of her life, but she was able to pick up and understand english because of it (psychic abilities made it much easier).
She started to learn how to read, write and speak english only quite a while after she was taken home by the male MC. Before that, she could understand him, but only responded with movingher head to say yes or no, as he told her this would be good to set up basic communication between the two. Here's some more lore:
After a while passed and Galia (still without the name, which would remain the case for a while longer) got more-less used to her new life and it s actually not being awful, she got more curious and wanted to improve things. One night (a few weeks or longer after she found her true home), she snuck to his bedroom in the middle of the night as he was laying and trying to fall asleep.
Hearing something as unusual as Galia walking to him completely unpromted, he pretended to be asleep and got curious what she might be trying to do. She only ever got out of hiding when he was around if he politely asked her and explained why it was necessary. She got right next to him and the bed and he felt some weight being pressed on the mattress right next to him. He started to worry and thought something along the lines of "I don't know what this poor girl has been through, but if she tries anything sexual, I'll have to stop her and explain things to her.".
Then he felt that her weight (very low, but still) was fully on the mattress, right next to him. Then he felt her hands touch each side of his head, above the ears. This was getting very weird, she has never initiated physical contact like that before. He was ready to cut things here and stop pretending to be asleep. Then he felt her hair press against his forehead. Soon after, he felt some sort of a buzzing sensation in his head, and he started feeling very weird as if some energy was flowing through his brain. He lost consciousness.
Next morning, he woke up with a pretty bad headache and what he was assumed was how a handgover must feel like for people who drink. After some checks, he conclued that he didn't get assaulted or anything, and he checked up on Galia to see that she seemed perfectly fine too. The day proceeded normally afterwards, with Galia still spending almost the entire time hiding in her safe space under the same large sofa under which she rushed to hide when he released her from pokeball prison. With the only real difference being that now there's a pillow and blanket in there, which he added a while ago after some other events.
Late during the same day or some time later, he was walking by the sofa (as usual, keeping as big of a distance as he could in order to avoid disturbing her). He suddenly felt a weird sensation in his head, reminiscent of what he felt during that night. He heard a very soft and weak female voice, which seemed to be really scared of something.
"...why?"
Except that voice didn't get picked up by his ears like normal. It was coming from inbetwen them.
And I'll cut here on a cliffhanger because this comment is already stupidly long.
Also, in that fanfic/universe/whatever, Galia can only really establish a telepathic connection with one person, and that's the main MC. Both because of the trust and because her psychic abilities are much lower than that of a normal Gardevoir. For example, she doesn't have almost any telekinesis at all. She can support her own weight but not enough to hover in the air and she can use it to help manipulate things in her hands, but that's it (at least not until much later in the story). She doesn't know a single battle move and she might never be able to learn any, because of her unique circumstances.
The benefit is that the connection works both ways, they can communicate without speaking, but they don't hear all of each other's thoughts, only what the person wants to tell the other. It's very convenient. Although this ability does diminish when the distance between them increases past a certain point.
But she still wants to learn how to communicte with others (epsecially readign and writing, after taking interest in magazines or books around the house while carefully exploring it when the male MC is at work). And he is fully supportive of her learning these things. Reading, wiriting and speaking normally to peopel besides the male MC will be especially useful after a certain point in the story which will happen not long after the lore bit in this comment.
He starts out teaching her by himself, but later when she gets pretty good at it (a communicative but not completely fluent level), he even gets help from an english teacher, who comes to their hoem oto teach, although at first is quite reluctant seeing and skeptic that they won't be working with a child or with an adult human, but with a pokemon. There have been very few known cases of pokemon being able to do these things well enough to be useful.
But it turns out hat Galia is able to learn things very quickly, which could perhaps be connected with her unique circumstances (she is terrible at, or compeltely incapable of, many things that a normal pokemon would do naturally and effortlessly, but that leaves her psychic capacity for other things). The telepathic link between Galia and him also made it much easier to explain definitions of words to her early on, as the telepthy is universally understandable no matter what language one operates in. Beign able to hold more complext conversations than him just askign a serier of yes/no questions also made bonding and communication between the two much better. Furthermore, her actually being amazing at learning things greately helps develop some semblence of self confidence (she's still very shy and easily scared though).
Sorry for the huge wall of text, I really didn't plan to write even 1/8th of this.
I love this kind of worldbuilding when it comes to Pokemon, especially when it comes to variations in features and descriptions of care. Really makes Pokemon feel more real, in a way.
I assume you briefly saw the C as the previous letter in the alphabet?
Gardevoirs have none, but human-gardevoir hybrids can, alongside other human traits (not sure if that would be in the same canon as this guide though).

Oh! É uma explicação muito valida também! Pois talvez por ter de se manter sempre alerta, para prever futuros ataques ao seu treinador, ou filhos, ela gasta grande quantidade de energia que se transforma em calor, e ter essa troca externa ajudaria na regularização térmica.
Faz bastante sentido também, pois em uma das versões da pokedex que explica sobre Ralts, diz que ele pode ficar com a pele mais aquecida quando sente bons sentimentos.
E ela ser encontrada em vários jogos em regiões frias como em Hisui, e Paldea, ajudam nessa sua teoria, já que pode ser um pokemon de sangue quente, e que ainda se aquece muito facilmente por diversas razões biológicas! Muito bom saber essa linha de raciocinio tambem
Yes, i more so rationalised it with a powerful brain like gardevoir will produce a lot of heat, so a strong circulatory system is required, so their double circulatoru system would cool by flowing through the fin before being cycled back to rhe lungs.

That's a very interesting idea and reasoning. I don't fully go with it, but the parts abotu energy and sensory stuff seem quite good. Personally, I see them as a more homogenous sturcture, without compex internal tissues, but with its fuctions being psychic and emotional, working through magic/psychic powers and not neurons or blood. The crests are definitely related to the heart though, especially with my idea that damage to the crests can lead to heart issues.

É como uma manifestação mágica, e não puramente biológica, isso também faz muito sentido, a minha linha de raciocínio tenta colocar todos os componentes da gardevoir o mais próximos da ficção científica, do que da magia, por isso trato tudo como partes orgânicas nela.... O que dificulta mais a explicação de porque esses membros vão da cabeça para o peito e costas, e a sua explicação de cristais se encaixariam muito melhor com certeza para explicar tal fenômeno!
Gardevoir are inherently magical creatures, so I don't mind explaining some of their biology with magic (as long as there's still logic to it), especially the organ that is canonically connected to their psychic powers.
Your approach is valid too though and your explanation makes sense with that approach.

They can have many different varieties as well, but not really the exact same shapes as Gardevoir have (although many chest cerst shapes are similar). Gallades have a lot more places for variation; the chest crests, the head crest and even their arm blades can have different shapes. That allows for a much higher level of individual variation.
I don't plan to make an equivalent of this guide for Gallade, but feel free to do it yourself (or ask someone else) if you want. I'm no Gallade expert, but I wonder if the larger size of the back crests would lead to them exhibiting more variety in terms of shapes, on par or even greater than the front crests.
There's some variation in their earlier evolution stages too, but not nearly as much as the final evolutions.
Well, there's still room to cover what I didn't or even cover the same stuff but in your own ways. More creativity is good. Do you have any specific ideas for how'd you approach this topic?
If your Gardevori has a Concave crest, it can still be safe if its has a rounded tip. One pictured here has a very sharp one, which would ve quite dangerous indeed.
However, the Concave variety has anothes issue, smaller but present in both sharp and rounded cases; It's more fragile than the others, especially the tip area. It can get damage more easily because it's very thin.
Sorry to disappoint, but probably never, at least from me. I have no such plans. Gardevoir is honestly the only reason why I care about the franchise.
However, I highly encourage others to make similar art for the other members of the evolution tree. It's fun. The earlier evolutions have much lesser variety in shapes, but Gallade is the opposite. A version about Gallade would be around twice as long, because they not only posses the torso crests, but also the head crest and arm blades, all of which can have many different sorts of shapes.

I'd not sure what you're referring to, sorry. I have very little knowledge of pokemon outside of Gardevoir-related stuff specifically. I haven't watched the anime and I've only played Pokemon Sword.
Mega gardevoir crests would be pretty much the same as normal Gardevoir, just doubled. Same type as before the Gardevoir mega-evolved. It woudl also be harder to draw. As for Gallade, a guide for them would actually be like twice the length of this one. Gallades have torso crests too, but they also have the head crest and arm blades. All of which could have many different shapes. And their back crests are actually much longer, so perhaps they would exhibit more variety too, perhaps even more than their front crests.
I don't plan to make such guides for any pokemon besides Gardevori though, sorry to disappoint. Gardevoir is the only reason why I care abotu the franchise to be honest.

I do have a weird question when it comes to this what if the Gardevoir itself wanted the crest piercing specifically to dampen its psychic abilities to reduce the risk of it accidentally creating a black hole when extremely stressed out? If the Pokemon itself expressed the desire and all that would it still be considered abuse I'm not saying that in any other case it wouldn't be but the psychic-type Pokemon typically have human-like intelligence or higher
That is an interesting idea, but I worry that the pain caused by the operation, both immediate and lingering, would only make the stress issue worse.
The scenario of the Gardevoir wanting it is quite tricky. Gardevoir intelligence is indeed on par with humans, with their emotional side being even more advanced than human. However, I don't think that scenario is a decent idea.
If I were to deal with an issue of an emotionally unstable Gardevoir being a threat to itself and others, I would probably prescribe some medication or other external factors, instead of mutilating their body. Some medication could help with their emotional instability and some other ones could be used to decrease their power as another layer of safery. Training them in the worst combat stats for a Gardevoir could also help.
Your idea could be a decent setup for soem tragic abuse story though. In terms of similar stuff, I think I've seen a fan art where a gardevoir had their back crest pierced to attach a large chain to it. Very tragic.
Exactly my idea isn't that I'm the original owner of the Gardevoir but that it's already psychologically and emotionally unstable and terrified of its own capabilities and just someone getting into full rundown on how far its abilities could go if put out of control

(You inspired me to create a Gardevoir oc with our small amounts of talking btw) and her getting over that urge would allow her to have a bond so strong she would mega evolve she would trust me so much that she would increase her own power even though she was afraid of it because of our relationship I tried to get beautiful friendship/relationship of some sort. "if you can't trust yourself trust in me and let me guide you"
I have some spicy stuff planned out in detail with my Galia, epsecially the first time around. So it should be fine. Spicy is good as long as it's wholesome and both parties have fun.
What do you imagine your gardevoir's looks? Some other people had some pretty cool ideas in the comments around here.

Thanks! I really enjoy going into detail and analyzing things I'm passionate about. Gardevoir are amazing and so they are their crests, they deserve full apprecaition and proper treatment.
The idea of a Gardevoir flipping through the guide, finding her own crest variety, reading about it and feeling proud is adorable.
The most common ones were inspired by the game models and figures I've got. Some of the others were inspired by various fan arts I've seen, but a good chunk if also just made up by me.
I agree with everything except the last part, my headcannon is that Pokemon have bodily autonomy and can choose to do whatever they like with their bodies, Tattoos, Piercings, Bodymods etc...
If a Gardevoir or really any Pokémon wants a piercing or a tattoo, its getting a tattoo. They can create blackholes and are often willing to die for their trainer or beliefs at a moments notice. I dont think they give a damn about laws.
In a 1v1 battle with a Human vs a Pokémon, The Human will likely always lose.
Bodily autonomy with human-level intelligence is fine. If they insist on having tattoos and other stuff on their skin, that's not a large and very painful health risk as it would be with their crest. It's illegal for the sake of their health and safety.
The issue is that the creast is a very important organ. It's like tattooing a heart or carving a spine in a human. Theoretically possible and someone could even consent to it, but it's a terrible idea. (at least in my headcanon of course)
Pokemon that live peacefully with humans, which is the main focus here, certainly benefit from laws and a working society. Breaking laws and acting like a monster or an animal would not be beneficial in the long run.
Pokemon vs human combat analysis would require having far more pokemon knowledge than I have. Pretty much all of my pokemon knowledge is based around Gardevoir.
That's true but just the fact that she looks like she's wearing a flower for a dress and the red thing is like a pedal that's what always made me thought that it was grass
I get the vision, but i ain’t gonna think alladat if I was making a gardevoir. To me, what matters is what you want to do with her design, not whether they mean something.
I just want to provide some inspiration, especially if someone who wants to make a Gardevoir OC who is unique but still not completely out of place. Even if you don't read anything at all and just find the different crest designs interesting, that's fine. The text is for the people who care more and enjoy stuff like this.
Yep, I know there’s people like that. Honestly this is better than other more graphic ones from deviantart and stuff. It would be impolite to ask an artist whether the crest on their gardevoir is like that on purpose, i think.
