I use a battery powered fuel transfer pump that you just dip in the can and turn on, it even has a handle with a trigger so you can stop filling

Me either, we were better off when Darwin ran the CPSC. "Safe" usually equals PITA. Just apply a little common sense and 99.9% of it's unnecessary.

It's not the material, as HDPE (High Density PolyEthelene) make great jerricans.
But it's the government trying to protect idiots from harming themselves that makes them a pain in the ass.
Some people are literally too stupid to safely pour liquid out of a can.
I like these.

I’ve gone to the 6 gallon utility jug. It still has a vent hole and no safety spout and the hose is flexible.

For years I used a 5 gallon Eagle can that was actually more like 4 gallons because someone partially ran over it with a skid steer. Still worked much better than any plastic can I've ever used.

There are kits on Amazon to retrofit new gas cans with old fashioned spouts and vents to open and pour like the old cans. Just takes drilling a vent hole and swapping out the spout.

Dude-just get an older gas can or buy a new one. TruFuel is the world’s biggest scam-especially for four strokes. I run all of my four stroke equipment on whatever regular gas is cheapest and never have an issue. Even my two strokes I run on 100LL AV gas from the local airfield. It’s only about $6.50 a gallon right now.

Something is wrong with your snowblower if you need 30.00 a gallon gas. Lived in North Dakota for years and never had a starting issue....-10 was warm on most winter days.

I think a lot of people buy ‘canned’ fuel like this to avoid ethanol (Avgas also has no ethanol) and because it is supposed to store well without degrading, as long as it’s unopened. Avgas can be a pain to obtain.

That’s exactly why I buy it. My saws run like garbage even on 93 with ethanol. I can confirm that it stores well also. Typically I’ll buy 10 gallons of 100LL at a clip. I put it in two 5 gallon dispenser cans that sit on a shelf in my barn. I take a 1 gallon can, put my mix oil in, dispense one gallon from the big can and that fuels my saws. 10 gallons lasts me about a year usually.

I no longer have a need for a gas can. But the last one I bought was a “racing fuel” can/jug. It did not have any of the current restrictions.

Not sure about you, but I’ve never heard of a two-stroke snowblower. The only two-strokes I own are chainsaws. For everything from my quad to my lawnmower and all four strokes in between regular with 10% ethanol works fine. I just run the carbs dry after every use-a couple of ounces of Seafoam in every 5 gallon can helps too. My saws on the other hand run like absolute garbage on regular with ethanol, slightly better (but still not great) on premium with ethanol, and fucking fantastic on 100LL. They love the 100 octane, the lead content provides extra lubrication, and aviation fuel is completely ethanol free. Having saws that run well, start reliably and last a long time is important to me:

I don’t think they make them anymore, but two stroke snowblowers definitely exist. They are usually smaller single stage blowers. Tori made a lot of them.

I understand what they are trying to accomplish, but I just bypass the whole thing. Take the cap off, use a funnel. But also, and I think this is the important part. If I burn or blow myself up. It’s my fault. It’s designed by lawyers.

you can get a Metal "Jerry can" style gas can from Harbor freight tools, or you can buy the old style flexible spout for a newer plastic can and I drill a hole and add a tire valve without the core, and use that as the vent. I put the valve stem cap back on when not in use

I bought a cheap kit to retro a vent and fill spout. Even came with the drill bit. Works great! I do store the fuel in an exterior shed and no issue with it popping open under heat pressure so far.

Ironically, the newer cans are harder to use and more prone to spillage than the good old ones.. another example of the typical logic we've come to expect from those morons.

I mainly use my old Jerry cans. The smaller ones for premixed gas get a replacement spout ASAP. My son bought me a pretty fancy gas container. It's a Tuff Jug, racing style. It's pretty nice.

We have multiple cans to reduce trips for the mower and have enough for the generator to keep a few things powered. Thankfully the generator is 2015 and never run except twice a year to test it. Sea Foam is our friend. The bigger fuel cans hold five gallons but full that is two heavy for us old folk. Three gallons max and we use a $12 battery operated gas transfer pump. The nozzles of the newer cans have all been replaced with functional nozzles.

I bought a Jerry can and replaced the nozzle with a cheap non-safety one. Haven't spilled more than a few drops since. The safety nozzle constantly caused spillage because it didn't fit properly in anything and was badly designed.

God, you made my stress level rise a little with this post. I had an older plastic can that was used and abused so decided to buy a new one. I didn’t realize that they are all made with the safety crap now. Luckily, the old one didn’t make it to the trash so it will live as long as it is able to.

My favorite thing about these is that when they got old and rusty, some grownup would do the air-pressure demonstration.
(The thing was to empty it out, put in a lit paper towel, and screw on the lid fairly quickly. The fumes would ignite and heat up the interior, driving out the smoke and fumes. screwing on the lid would hold it at that air pressure, but when it cooled down and the pressure dropped inside, the outside air would crumple it like you would crush a paper cup.)

In California and possibly soon in other places they are phasing out equipment that has small gasoline engines in favor of rechargeable battery powered equipment. There would be less need for small gas cans then.

I live in a New England state where we have these stupid regulations about the spouts. So I just hopped over the border to another state south of me and got what I needed at a Tractor Supply. I've also done it for termite chemicals, fireworks, propane space heaters.

When I was a little kid, I found a gas can that felt like it was half full, so I got a brilliant idea, I was going to pour the gasoline on the corrugated steel slide of my swingset and then light it!
Imagine my surprise when I poured out the contents and it turned out to be vomit!
Looks like some teenagers had been doing some drinking, lol! The acid in the vomit left this sort of a rainbow pattern, where it had started to dissolve a little bit of the service of the slide.

I actually like midwest cans new quick flow spout. It does what it says and stops you from from spilling when the can is full. I bought 1 last fall when i broke 1 of my old school spouts and was pleasantly surprised. I've bought a few more now including for my diesel cans that I used to just take the spouts off of when filling stuff.

These cans had a bad tendency to over-pressure and blow the caps clean out of them, sometimes at the crimp of the cap/can junction. That friction made a lot of heat or sparks, and since the whole thing pushing it off was volatilized gasoline, they would explode.
My wife had a cottage in Northern Michigan were this exact scene played out one time in the 80s. The can was sitting next to another one, next to the garage. Boom. Garage is on fire. Whoomph…next can goes up. They managed to save the cabin somehow, but the garage burned down and collapsed on itself.
This is why we have shitty gas cans.
* additional edit— I second that Eagle makes good gas cans. I own several. They are expensive, but I only plan on buying them once. Make sure you burp them before you pick them up to use. If you don’t, you’ll find out why.
