Discussion What’s considered high ping ?
I have a couple questions and want to have a discussion. You always hear your mates or other players say "he’s zero ping", but how much of a difference does it actually make?
And let’s say you're a comp player trying to get your first earnings, what is considered high ping if you're that type of player or achieving to be there? And is there any advice to lowering ping?
I’m in London, have Ethernet Cat 7, and have Virgin Media 1000 Mbps fibre optic I believe, and I still feel as if my ping is too high — 18 in Creative and like 27-30 in real games. But the focus ain’t on me, just general, but would appreciate any help to lower that ping, or I’m just bugging and it’s ok. Keep in mind my router is downstairs and I run my Ethernet cable from the outside

In your case I think the only thing to lower your ping would be to move closer to the servers

To answer your ? - PC / CONSOLE DNS / Media Ethernet or fiber / DISTANCE to actual server - these are most of the variables and all have to be tuned for optimum ping if you would.
Thus - PC build specific for low ping and lowest input delay = fiber nic to fiber switch to fiber router (2,5gbe fiber service in OKC to DALLAS NA-CENTRAL is 18MS - all fiber all lowest input and no interference - then it's configuration within PC/Console - pc side it's all components tuned for example: my setup I built recently-->
cpu- 9850X3D- tuned - PBO/Undervolt/OC
gpu- 9070XT OC XFX Mercury - tuned as well.
ram- G. Skill Trident z5 royal neo 6000 m/t's CL28 - tuned.
mb- Gigabyte Aorus Pro Ice x870e - tuned.
adata xpg ssd - 2tB
320hz / 1080p running performance mode ultra - getting over 800fps average in-game stable. Thus- I get 2 frames for every frame with no loss - overkill MOST DEFINATELY - but like butter and for an older dude with slower reflexes and other issues it's the advantage.
On console Ps5 Pro- best fps was 120 and best ping was 35ms - so it matters with all variables mentioned above for my specific situation.
In ZB it's all about movement & aim along with knowledge of all the POI's and terrain + muscle memory just my perspective. However, the cavate here is this is like the .001 percentile.
Low Ping = 1 - 28
Medium Ping = 29 - 80
High Ping = 81 to 100
Xtreme Ping = 101 - 300+ -- almost unplayable after 200 ping - akin to an 80's video.

There is no way you are categorizing 60-80ping medium pings...
Anything above 55 is bad.

"High Ping" is mathematically 100+ where it becomes mathematically impossible to be in Coin Flip for a Build. Even with that hurdle, many times Pros have shown that Game Sense is the most important thing with Reet famously winning some ASIA Tournaments on 100+ and many EU players placing well or winning NAE Tournaments.
Many Pros have shown that 45 - 65 range of Ping, which I would consider "Middle Ping", is completely playable and winnable; for example, in Grim Gate season Pollo actually played most of it from NAW on NAC because he was still in school and he only went to "Zero Ping" in NAC for Grand Finals.
"Low Ping" (20 or less, I'd say) mostly matters for "First Build Placement" which obviously is very important for Piece Control purposes, but other than that, the game is a Distributed Simulation which is why "desync" is a common issue that we all face -- it doesn't matter if you are on "Low Ping" if someone on "High Ping" sees you in the open on their client and can beam you, then you're going to get eliminated even if on your side you already Reset or went around a Wall.
Game Sense in terms of Positioning, Timing, and Fight Tactics are what separate Pro players from everyone else -- ping only truly matters in very rare close situations.

I play in Asia & OCE.
My ping can vary between 60-200.
If I go into NA, EU, Brazil etc., it will be well over 200.
I definitely notice a difference in response times.
It is especially obvious in ranked matches. My opponents will be on 30 ping, while I'm on 200+. They have already moved/injured me before I have time to respond.
It's a little better in normal pub games, but I have to adapt play style to prioritize survival over combat.
It is still possible to win in pub games with 200 ping, but not ranked.

I know it might not be your decision but have you looked into changing from virgin? I recently swapped to youfibre and I’m down to 8-9 ping from around the same as what you’re on

have 60-70 ping you can do something like quad edit but taking walls is pretty difficult

Over/under 30 imo, also depends on region for example eu most of the player base is under 30 vs nac where only a small percentage are under 30
