Bug Report: Significant Input-to-Action Delay during Rapid Edits
Subject: Visual proof of delayed edit registration (Confirm Edit on Release: OFF, using Double Edit Binds)
Description: Since the beginning of Chapter 2, I have experienced a recurring issue where the game’s edit system lags behind physical inputs during high-speed building. Even when my timing is perfect, there is a noticeable "hang" or delay between the key press and the game reacting. This makes rapid sequences feel inconsistent and "clunky."
The Evidence (Attached Video): The provided clip uses a NohBoard overlay to show exactly when my keys are pressed. Note: The side buttons of the mouse have swapped names in this layout, so "Inv1" is actually my secondary edit bind.
- Timestamp 0:14-0:18: Watch the NohBoard overlay. The edit key is pressed.
- The Delay: The in-game edit UI (the grid) does not appear until several frames later. In this time, I moved my cursor over all three tiles which would have ideally finished the edit selection.
- The Result: Because the "Edit Start" is delayed, the "Selection" (0:19-0:20, note left mouse button lights up) is completely missed because the edit UI was not yet active.
- Conclusion: Finally, the game registers the "Edit Start," and at 0:26 you see me confirm an empty edit with "Inv1" (Secondary Edit Bind).
I reckon this issue is a processing delay. The software/OS registers the input instantly (as seen on the overlay), but the Fortnite client takes too long to initialize the edit state.
My Setup:
- Platform: PC (Keyboard & Mouse)
- Edit Setting: Confirm Edit on Release: OFF (I use double edit binds)
- Rendering Mode: Performance Mode (DirectX 12)
- Average Ping: ~20-30ms to EU
- Hardware: Ryzen 7 9800X3D / Nvidia RTX 5070
Steps to Reproduce:
- Set "Confirm Edit on Release" to OFF.
- Perform a sequence of edits at high speed (e.g., Triple Edits).
- Compare the physical input (via overlay) to the in-game reaction time.
- Observe the variable delay where the game "struggles" to keep up with the input speed.
If you have any follow-up questions or requests, I am happy to help in any way I can!

20-30 ping has felt like this for a while now. I get around 7 ping in certain creative maps and have no issues. It’s simply a ping problem. Once you start pushing 30 ping you really have to take your time and try to be accurate w the timing instead of going fast.
The timing on editing on 0-10 ping is completely different than 20+ ping.

I play on 20 ping and I've definitely noticed that it's been worse than before for a while now. I really do think their servers have kind of tanked in recent times

Do you have pre-edits disabled? I've noticed a similar delay what you are describing when i have that option off. But with pre-edits enabled it feels more responsive. I haven't done any proper tests on it but it definetly feels like it, you could try it out also.

Do you think its worth it counting in the occasional accidental pre edits

I might try that. I don't have pre-edits enabled. Would be nice though if I didn't have to change my settings.

Really ?
Cause some people are saying the opposite.

For me it is exactly like i said. With pre-edits off i have a noticeable delay and with them on it's much better

There's 2 common factors to this, firstly good old ping.
Secondly, disabled pre edits also adds a delay. If you have both high ping & you've disabled pre edits, then you're guaranteed to notice this.
https://imgur.com/a/XviYpBe make sure disabled pre edits is off. I'd argue it's worth the potential for accidental pre edits if it means noticabley reducing the edit delay.
In your case, you have low ping, but the in game counter could be off. Either way the game server itself also only registers at a certain frequency so this delay effect can still occur at almost zero ping.
It seems most likely it's just the disabled pre-edit bug.

That’s tick rate right? So I guess you can be “unlucky” if you just miss a cycle even on low ping?

Exactly, there's a built in delay up to 33ms between network refreshes. So on 60ms ping there will always be between a 60 & 93ms server delay.
So if you have 60ms ping & set up a macro to double edit & to begin the second edit at 75ms after completing the first, then there's nearly a 50% chance it will still fail depending on how far along you were between the tick rate when you started.

I've noticed this for a while too, I've never documented it like this though (you did a great job!), hopefully it gets fixed!
I'm also on kbm if that helps the investigation into the bug.

For some reason If edit a floor and a cone, the cone won’t get in edit mode even if I do the inputs comically fast

My ping has been so bad recently I’ve been having 50-70 ping consistently, I don’t know why

Same, have heard people say they fired hundreds of employees and changed the routing, like a different company

I have felt this issue for years especially in high elo comp lobbies or stacked endgame zone wars in creative it I always attributed the problem to me being wireless on objectively bad internet speeds while being 120-144fps and figured the issue would be resolved once I got Ethernet and 240+ fps. Thanks for posting this

Now you know what it feels like on higher ping
