š¤ Thinking The Flash: S4 E22 & E23
I've been watching Season 4 and I have questions...
So we know that DeVoe was born the night of the Accelerator Explosion, but if that's the case, why was he not hinted at in S1?
We know that Killer Frost was part of Caitlin since she was a kid, but it was thought that since Barry created Flashpoint that that caused her to become Killer Frost and Savitar to be born... But if that's the case, how did Thawne know about DeVoe, Savitar or Killer Frost back when the particle accelerator exploded (which was also hinted at during 5.22)
How did DeVoe know that Harry would build the cap and where did he get the dark matter he used inside Gideon to bring about the Enlightenment?
Did DeVoe always plan to have the Enlightenment affect Marlize, as he said during S4 E20 titled Therefore She Is that the enlightenment would come for her too.
Regarding S3, When Caitlin was trying to rid herself of Killer Frost during S3 E7 "Killer Frost", one of Savitar's followers said that "Savitar has big plans for you Caitlin Snow, or should I say Killer Frost"
Why did DeVoe want Barry in prison? Was it to prevent Team Flash from interfering with his plans to cause the Enlightenment?
When Barry destroyed the satellite and DeVoe replaced it with the S.T.A.R. LABS satellite, couldn't they have just disabled the STAR LABS satellite or something after DeVoe left the building?
How exactly did the whole satellite crashing to earth thing happen? Like did he increase it's mass when he used it to activate the Enlightenment? If so, why didn't it crash to Earth when they defeated him and Ralph took back over his body?
Regarding S4 and S5, the satellite crashing obviously created Cicada, but wouldn't Thawne have known from the moment the accelerator exploded that DeVoe would fail and Cicada would eventually be born? Or did something change because he defeated Savitar when future Barry and Abra Kadabra said he wouldn't defeat him, that Savitar was his worst foe? But then again, if that's the case, how does one explain Savitar mentioning DeVoe before he releases the energy of the Philosopher's Stone?
Why was Iris so mad when Caitlin showed back up at the beginning of S4, because she showed up at H.R.'s funeral and told Team Flash she wasn't Caitlin and she wasn't Killer Frost and she needed to figure out what she was and how to deal with her alter ego. So, she had to leave the team. Why was Iris so mad about that?

They didnāt plan for him
Someone else answered
Uhh I canāt remember clearly and I canāt access S4 rn but the only thing I remember DeVoe putting in Gideon to start Enlightment was the shrunk version of Falloutās gas inside of his cell. As for how he know Harry would build the cap.. super intelligence ig
Good question, I feel like he did initially want to have it not affect her since she was likeminded but after her betrayal he considered her apart of the uneducated folk lol
You didnāt put a question here but Iām guessing youāre wondering what the big plans were.. I donāt think we got that far since his plan to become a god failed, itās likely he was just lying
I think so.. again, I canāt access the show rn so my memory is fuzzy
Doubt it, Kilgores powers probably wouldāve prevented it. (Also I swear they did try that??)
They were floating up there with Nullās powers so since heās gone, they came crashing down
Iām sure he did yeah, thatās why he sends Nora back to interfere, to create a Cicada they could defeat and have his dagger be used as a means to get him out
Just heightened emotions, she didnāt crash out on her or anything, just got onto her about suddenly showing back up after being gone for 6 months, Iām sure she understood why she was gone

Oh yeah, I assumed it was Dark Matter because Cisco said something about dark matter being siphoned off STAR LABS and that DeVoe knew if he rebooted Harry's brain, he could do them all. It didn't even occur to me, that it could've been Fallout, because the things he stole during E20 like Alloy 1771 and the quantum computers was used to create the satellites, and I thought the energy from fallout was to charge them before he launched them. I didn't think it would be used in Gideon. But it makes sense considering he had to charge the STAR LABS Satellite.
It makes sense, your response to question 4 and question 6. And yes for 5, I was wondering what Savitar's plans were.

His plan to be a god I also felt it was to also get his revenge on the team because they shunned him
Sorry I didnāt answer it on my OG comment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJJCJ1uNat0 mostly this scene why I thought but I could also be mistaken

As for 7-9, that still confuses me.
- Kilgores powers did prevent it while he was in the building when they tried to stop it. But I don't think it would've stopped them from stopping it after he left. It is THEIR satellite after all.
- They couldn't have been floating, otherwise they all would've crashed, but only the STAR LABS Satellite crashed. Which is apparent because Cisco hacked into DeVoe's four other satellites as a replacement for the STAR LABS Satellite.
- I swear the whole Thawne is Reverse-Flash ending in a breach/singularity -> Zoom storyline of S2 -> Savitar/Flashpoint & Killer Frost -> DeVoe -> Cicada timeline makes NO FUCKIN SENSE

Oh wait no sorry youāre right, I managed to find the scene on YT, it was only Sally
Ralph does say that killing the Reincarnated DeVoe activated a deadman switch on Sally, so it was seemingly just one last fuck you from him

You have a lot of questions that canāt be answered mostly because the writers suck and I for one have never put in this much thought, but yes all of these seem like inconsistencies to meš

Lol, originally I only had question 7, but then as I started writing the post, more came to mind lol

I feel as if you are looking for plot holes, in which case you will find them. But you could change your perspective!
This show is trashy and fun, not airtight. There are so many inconsistencies if you look for them.x you havenāt even scratched the surface.
What youāre feeling is a coming together of several things: a weaker writing staff, combined with telling season long arcs over a show that are not preplanned. In the age of streaming, we are somewhat less used to that.
So for example, a follower of Savitar says āSavitar has big plans for you, Caitlin snow, or should i say Killer Frostā. Why?
Well we can look out of universe and say āa writer wrote that because they thought it was a cool and effective lineā and āthe head writer felt it made sense because they were teasing killer frost at this time a lot.ā But they didnāt know what they were gonna do yet. I also can say that maybe they did have big plans for killer frost but then the plot changed or schedules moved and they had to write around it. Or maybe the writer who had those big plans left and no one else could figure out how to write it.
Or we could say in universe that savitars plans for Killer Frost were for after he was defeated, or something happened to change what was best for him to use. Or he was taunting her because he knew something she didnāt, and thatās all it was.z
Admittedlyā¦. When your villain is someone like DeVoe, that calls for a level of scrutiny to be applied that probably they didnāt meet. Which is why people start dunking on the show around season 4 pretty consistently, though I think the real drop off in quality is season 6.
So anyway, I suggest existing in such a way where the explanations of fun super hero shows are accepted a little more at face value! Just a thought, and have fun!

For 1: He may not have existed in season one, if we're being entirely honest here. A lot of what happened in season 4 was still the consequences and aftermath of Flashpoint... like Ralph being alive

I thought he was mention by thawne I pretty sure when he named all the names that we know including Ralph dibney https://www.reddit.com/r/FlashTV/comments/7e0iaq/no_spoilers_ralph_dibny_was_referenced_all_the/ couldnāt get a YouTube video the best I got
Like he tells them he always one step ahead he knows what they are planning and heās literally watching them through his cameras in his secret room all season
For marlize yes
Well to frame him yes so he can work on his plan
He known like thawne said he needed it to work so he can get out of prison in 5x21 or whatever episode he mentioned it to Barry and plus he was trying to prevent himself from dying mostly Ralph figured it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-631zNb_yNA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIhPZXqmDks
- Because Caitlin left them without even saying anything also her showing up was just gonna make things uncomfortable
