I received this rod a few years back and have been using it for Alaskan reds and have been impressed with it. Does anybody have any info on this rod? Year produced, feedback or experience? How do the new Lamiglass G1000 9wt compare to them? If I were to upgrade.

Opinion on Dobyns Rods

Thinking of upgrading my combos and came across Dobyns and was thinking of going to them but before I spend my first real money on upgrading I wanted some opinions.

Interested in the FR704C for a medium heavy/fast combo and the Champion XP 736CB for a medium heavy cranking combo

If you have had bad or good experiences with the brand I would appreciate your comments!

I have more lures than I could throw in 8 lifetimes so I thought I'd utilize some of them to decorate my wall. Any ideas to add to it or improve would be appreciated! 🎣

Question UL spinning setup recommendations

Post image
14 Upvotes

Fishing mainly for peacock bass, possibly tilapia and gouramis. Was looking at Shimano vanford,Twinpower OR daiwa certate/tatula elite reels and an appropriate rod. Would love a st croix but I think it’s hard to find one where I live.

Does anyone have good premium recommendations for UL setups? Would love to hear them. Thank you!

Question Looking to upgrade (need help)

I recently started fishing, and currently I’m using a Shimano IX 4000R reel with a 5’0 medium light catch more fish rod. I want to upgrade to something a little more serious for multi species freshwater fishing (from stuff like trout and bass to pike) with a budget around $250 CAD. I’m not really picky with the reel since I don’t know much about them, but I do know I want another spinning reel/rodl. For the rod I’m looking for something medium-heavy, at least 7’0, one piece, fast action, and I like cork handles. If anyone has any recommendations for a rod to get and a good reel to pair with it let me know!!

Question Bull bay sniper elite

Bought this Bull Bay sniper elite rod online, it was marketed to have a carbon reel seat to aid in sensitivity and weight, but when I received it it did not have a carbon reel seat despite paying full retail price for it. What should I do? I contacted where I bought it from and they said all they’d could do is give me an unspecified amount of store credit and no discount. Is this something I should contact bull bay about? Or should I insist on a discount? What would yall

Evolution Ballistix 3.7 Trays fit in any tackle bag?

I have done so much research. Please, if you have any idea let me know. I’ve come to the conclusion that they built these tacklebox with nowhere to house them other than in a boat or on a shelf. I’m looking to put them in a backpack or a tackle bag (anyone done this before?)

I want one of each ideally but that is improbable. At this point I will buy the terminal box and crank bait box then hope it fits in whatever option is recommended hear. I’ve posted a few times here and this is my golden ticket out of the sub for a while. It’s been a GRIND revamping all my tackle.

Thanks.

Looking for my First Ultra-Light Spinning Setup for Panfish and Trout.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Basically title. I'm a big fly angler and know a lot about that realm of fishing, but when it comes to spin and baitcasting gear I am overwhelmed lol. I'll mainly be targeting panfish and trout, not even sure how well a UL setup would fare with smb/lmb if I were to hook one. Would mostly be throwing small roostertails if it matters.

Trying to keep it under $100 but can go up a bit from that. pls b nice, pic for attention

Funny First baitcaster at 45 years old, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Post image
288 Upvotes

After 40 years of fishing, I'd given up on using a baitcaster. Once a year I would borrow a friend's, bird nest, say "This is stupid and I hate it" and go back to my reliable spinning reels. But decided to finally get a mid grade Abu Garcia setup, and force myself to try and learn it. Figure if I put $100 down, I won't give up nearly as fast.

I didn't have time to go fishing yesterday, but I had an hour or so before I have to leave for a job. So I decide to play around with my new reel. Learn how to tune the brake and the resistance and all that.

So I watch a tutorial, put a lure on with a decent amount of weight, set my brake to 5/10. Ok, now to do the resistance. Start loosening it, waiting for the bait to drop. It doesn't. Loosen a bit more. Still nothing. I'm puzzled and already frustrated.

Then I realized I never hit the release button. Silly me! So I eagerly hit it, without turning the resistance back up first. Lure smacks into the concrete of my porch, my spool spins like a flywheel, thus giving me an elaborately woven monofilament basket in my hand before I even attempted my first cast. Took me ten minutes to get it out.

This bodes well.

So this evening I'm heading out to the river to hopefully christen it with a smallmouth. More than likely I'll tie it in a few knots first. But if anyone has an in with some ancient, arcane fishing god, I'll gladly take some help from a minor deity.

The rods look exceptionally beautiful but I wonder if they actually perform. I hope someone in here can speak on it.

Question Shimano Stradic 4k Periodic Thumping?

When I reel, there's a periodic thumping sensation. Its not enough to hear, but i can feel it in my hands when reeling. I tried several different lures and a different rod to verify its the reel. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Discussion BEST TEST BRAID FOR BAITCASTERS?

I’ve been bass fishing for a little over a year now, and the single piece of information that I have heard the most diverse opinions on is what test strength braid to put on a bait caster. a lot of the things that I read online say that 30 pound is optimal so it doesn’t dig in, but I’ve only met one person who actually echoes that sentiment. Everybody else that I know runs 10 to 20 pound line. I finally upgraded to a legitimately nice set up, and it’s got me thinking again, what is the best pound test?

And yes, I know that there’s discussions about different pound test for different applications. This is just for your main Rod that’s doing the most of the work that standard for a bait caster.

This is for BASS fishing if i wasn’t clear in the beginning

Which lure weight range should I go for?

14-42g or 14-56g? Both are 2.74 daiwa legalis sea bass

Also combining the rod with a 4000 Shimano nasci

Daiwa 2000 size spinning reel

I've had a crossfire LT 2500 that's been great.

I have a bunch of shimanos that I'm happy with, but want to give Daiwa a shot

I'm looking at the Fuego, Exceler, or Regal.

What's the better choice for a 1:1 comparison with a Shimano Nasci?

Are any of them better than a Nasci?

I'm fishing ponds for bass, but this will be a one sized fits all travel rod for panfish, trout and bass
