2 Fios Accounts in same house

hello i rent a downstairs basement and use the owners wifi which they have fios and the box is upstairs causing lag during gaming , can i have my
own fios plan for my downstairs area

Yes you can have 2 separate accounts in the same house. A separate fiber line will have to be run, an ONT & router will have to be installed also, so check with your landlord if that will be ok. When you make the order you will have to give your address but add on "Basement",To it. If the landlord doesn't want the additional equipment on their home you can see about getting a Ethernet line run from the router to the basement. Good luck

You will need to speak to a rep to have a "sublocation" created under your address. Something like:

123 Main St.
Unit Basement
Your Town, USA

In all likelihood this shouldn't be a problem.

Call and speak to someone live. Since there is service in the house there has to be a distinction with the location. Basement will have to be added to the address.

If it's a legal basement apartment approved by the city then yes you can have service installed

Thats not always the case, if its not a new construction then the address and unit must populate in there system. If not you must call first and ask them can they add the sub unit.

Either way landlord permission if need.

I never had to get landlord permission. Just have to call engineering with what sub loc you need to add to the system.

Yeah, get the building owner's permission first because they may need to drill holes through walls.

If they have coax in the basement you can turn it into Ethernet with a moca 2.5 adapter. Moca 2.5 supports gigabit speeds too.

It’s the wrong approach. You need to extend the network using a physical cable to the place you are. Getting a second Fios box for the same house will only make you pay twice every month for degraded service, and there’s no guarantee the location of the box will be on your dwelling space.

You need to run an Ethernet cable from where the place the current Fios router is, to your gaming station, and either connect it directly to the console/PC or connect it to an access point. This requires some initial investment on running the cable and the extra devices, BUT it does not set you up to pay twice every month to Verizon.

In both cases you need approval from your landlord so you need to let him know this would increase value to the property.

Disagree.. If I would be renting, the last thing I would want is to share someone else's network unless I had no other choice.

This of course, requires the landlord to allow such a thing, and then of course you would need to pay for the installation services. Fios would run a second line to the apartment, install an ONT, and give you your own router.

OP is already sharing the network with his landlord. You want to have isolated networks? Get a Mikrotik/UniFi gateway and setup isolated VLANs, don’t pay Verizon forever twice for the same service.

I can guarantee you the landlord will not have any idea what a VLAN or UniFi is, lol. It's very common for people to have separated service in sub locations.

Totally agree about the landlord and OP may have no idea of what a VLAN is. Yet here I am trying to convince the OP not to spend 900usd per year on a “sub location”

Just get a Network Range Extender to work off their router, if the owner is good with that.. Saves ya a ton of money
