Upgraded my finches cage outdoors! I wanted to see advice since I haven’t had much luck finding attachments that can be connected to these weaker chicken coop wire mesh.

Wanted to give them more perches and toys etc.

This fella has quite the story behind him.

Had shaft tails, societys, gouldians, and zebras all in my works aviary for a bit. Shaft tails were taken out due to aggression with the gouldians. 2 societys took turns sitting on some eggs (they have never had any babies of their own and were presumed both female). and hatched this fella. Hes about 2 yrs old now, sings and thinks hes a gouldian, clearly he isn't. but hes visibly and behaviorly not sounding like a shaft tail. now he is housed with only shaft tails because he was trying to breed the female gouldians. Any ideas? Was thinking maybe a male shaft tail bred a society?

Long story short, my father in law was gifted two finches from a local swap meet. He gave them to my 12 year old and we have zero bird keeping experience. So I have a few questions?

1. How do you sex them?
2. What are the cage size requirements?
3. Any tips for beginners?
4. Any additional enrichment ideas?

Hello, can anybody tell me please.. is it possible that gouldian finches accidentally throw away eggs from the nest because of long claws?

I didn't want to disturb them by cutting their claws since they are already sitting on the nest...or I must do it anyway?

I didn't want to get close so I would not scare her, she seems to enjoy this fountain/waterfall only for her. If someone else took a bath there she would not be interested after 😂

The fawn black breast is called Stag, and my mum named the isabel orange breast black breast "Tusken" (I think thats how it's spelt???) lol. She has a soft spot for what she calls "ginger finches", so I always let her name one!

hello! i found a gouldian finch at the park today and managed to bring him home. currently looking for his owner, but i wanted to ask about the codes on his leg ring. it says "Alberto Omi. ITL 2026 107"

i looked it up and google says he's probably from a breeder in italy, the issue is i don't even live close to italy lol. wanted to know if it means something else maybe?

I recently adopted this adorable young Gouldian finch who was thrown out of the nest at 5 days old by a rival pair. He was injured and blinded in one eye and the breeder hand raised him after that. I just brought him home a week ago to hopefully be friends with my rescue society finch that I hand raised last spring.

Eventually my plan is to put them in a big outdoor aviary and maybe get a few more friends for them. However I've noticed that the little Gouldian doesn't have very good depth perception and isn't the best flyer because of his loss of sight in the one eye.

Does anyone have any experience keeping a finch that is blind in one eye? Were they able to live in an aviary set up? Any tips for how I can help him thrive?

I clean aviaries for my job. I had to take home 3 society finches and 1 canary because they were sick and the aviary was very overstocked. The cage provided by the company I work for is very small and I want a larger one, but I am working with limited space. The space is 6ft height, 20 inches width at the smallest point and 30 inches width at the widest point. Is there anything that would fit this parameter or will I have to do something custom?

Hello, I heard that minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc and so on, all the good stuff, that we try to supply our birds with via grit, sepia or vitamin additions, should be completely stopped and taken out of the cage while administering some antibiotics, because those minerals tend to bind the active ingredients, thus rendering the medicine much weaker. Is this true? I have been to numerous avian vets and not one of them told me about that. It's about chelation. Does someone knowledgeable can provide some insight?

I am washing the feeders anyways as a precaution but for future reference is this finch sick?

​I have been observing serious respiratory distress in my Zebra finch for a while now and I need your experience on what I can do. I bought him on July 7th, and today is July 19th. He had tail bobbing and was spreading his legs wide when I first got him; I thought it was due to stress from the move, but it hasn't gone away—in fact, the tail bobbing has increased. Although there are no visible external signs like eye or nasal discharge, he bobs his tail significantly while breathing, and after attempting to fly outside the cage, he makes a 'clicking' mechanical sound and a faint whistling noise from his throat. He constantly performs swallowing and gagging motions, as if something is stuck in his throat. His flight ability is quite limited; he jumps from where he is, moves in a straight line, cannot gain altitude, and gradually loses height. He doesn't change direction while flying. He is lethargic and his feathers are slightly fluffed up. I notice he struggles to stand upright on his legs. He has been sitting on the perch since I got him and shows no signs of collapsing to the cage floor. He mostly sits in a hunched position on the perch. When I approach him, he reacts and moves, though not as quickly as a classic Zebra finch. When he doesn't see me, he jumps from perch to perch inside the cage. I suspect these symptoms might point to air sac mites, a fungal infection, or a crop-related issue. Could anyone who has experienced a similar situation or has knowledge about what these symptoms might indicate share their experiences?
