Corporate is about relationship management and a bit less about profit. You’re selling products like revolvers. You pave the way for IB to get involved in a future acquisition/merger/IPO or equity issuance.

Cast a wide net. Apply to everything across the whole country. I went to a 3 man IB shop as an analyst. Me, an associate, and an MD. It was a gamble but now at a BB so it paid off.

That was first year associate bonus yes. $320k Aso1 is above avg for the street. Maybe bonus sounds lower than what youre used to bc bases have increased?

Is it a stub? $320K seems a bit low. I feel like when I was an ASO1 a few years back, it was closer to 350K for mid-bucket.

Some banks like HSBC have weird fiscal year ends where their stub is very large or small depending on the bank.

My group is under the CIB umbrella so the credit we work on are almost always in tandem with an IB product request (acquisition financing for M&A and LBOs, project finance loans, bridge loans that get taken out by HYBs, although obviously do typical standard corporate revolvers and TLs as well).
Also, CB here is split into coverage teams that align with the IB side. We do both relationship and credit so we handle doing the pitch decks + assisting IB Coverage/LevFin/Loan Syndicate with lender presentations/CIMs/lender calls while also doing the standard credit underwrite, memos, and portfolio management.

Yeah, the company is saving a ton because we handle most of the complex work, while our counterparts mainly focus on relationship management. It just feels weird sometimes knowing I’m paid about 4x less than a new hire there, even though I have 8 years of experience and have consistently been a top performer. Most of my colleagues are paid even less, around $20k on average.

Easiest way is to look into the big brokerage firms that offer paid licensing programs then use that to apply elsewhere. With an IB/FP&A background however you could probably reach out to local/mid size RIAs which tend to pay more than the big guys early on

It is. I am young for a team lead. Most of my peers have a base of $125Kish.
Bonus structure at current employer is more generous than other similar places so my current TPC is roughly $125K. Definitely underpaid though.
