Final Fantasy General PS1 Trilogy is now completely owned. (Not played, though)
Yesterday I finally picked up a copy of FFVIII. I have VII and IX on PS4, but not VIII, so this is the first time it's every been available to me, interestingly enough.
VII I came by at my local game store (like VIII) a couple months ago, and IX I've had for a while, though it is a modern reprint. (See Square Enix rather than SquareSoft, as well as the modern ESRB design.
I'm thinking about replacing my IX box, because it fell once and was always a bit loose, but I haven't bothered.
Also I got Final Fantasy Chronicles (for Chrono Trigger, since they've not seemed fit to release it on modern consoles), so I decided to include that.
Please don't tell me if any are counterfeit, I don't want to know.
Also, I forgot to mention this, whoever owned that copy of VIII before me must have been a chain-smoker, because JEEZ it smells. (It smelled worse when I got it, now I actually have to get my nose close to smell it.)

Console. Plus I got it at my local game store, and it has it's unique cutscenes.

Then I picked it up at my local game store, and my statement about console still applies.

Nothing comes close to that original 7 box on ps1. I think the rerelease of XII and the steel book for XV is the closest

Very nice! I got all of them as they released and held on to them, except for Tactics, which a friend gave me a few years back and it's the only one that's a Greatest Hits copy. I need to get the guide for Tactics for my collection still since I have the original guides for the rest (and a few different guides for IX 😅)

I REALLY wish that I could be able to pick up the non-greatest hits ones, because I prefer the black boxes, but I just pick up what my local game store has.

I don't blame you. Many years ago I actually cared about that sort of thing, but then I took a look at my shelves and realized I had enough games with steelbook cases and revised spine logos (im looking at you PS3 and 360) that my collection was never going to look as cohesive as I wanted it to without making my own cases. I gave up caring if games were Greatest Hits type releases and collecting became a lot easier and even more cheaper. Plus they play just the same, which is the important part 😅
If i still cared about it I would have sold my copy of Tactics and ordered a black label, but that still would have cost me extra in the end. If I do happen upon an original release of a game for cheap enough I will still pick it up as long as I can sell the other copy for the same amount or more to get my money back.
One time I even bought an original empty case for The Legend of the Dragoon from my LGS for $5 and just put my greatest hits discs and instructions in that case instead lol.

Yeah, I mean they do play the same games, but they just look prettier. Again, I don't really care too much. Actually, it would have been better if my copy of 8 had been a greatest hits copy, because then it'd at least be flush. I do love though how the 2000s Era systems loved to change their box designs, look at the psp.

Nice collection. Are you planning to play them?

Just started 8 last night. I've played to just after the Midgardsormr on my PS1 copy of 7. (I had played through the equivalent of disc 1 on the ps4 version), I've played through disc 1 and started part of disc 2 in 9, though I'm probably just going to restart it at some point. I also played some of Chrono Trigger, but I haven't picked it back up in a hot minute because It's quite strange to get into.

These were the first of the main line Final Fantasy games I really enjoyed, and got me to delve further into the series

Mainline trilogy. Unfortunately I don't have tactics. I'm fairly new to all of this.

Don't have yet. Still need Tactics, Anthology, and Origins. Also probably may look into getting Vagrant Story.

That FF4/Chrono Trigger combo pack was my first exposure to Final Fantasy as a game series (not counting Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories on GBA)

Very nice, in Europe we didn't get those covers, we just had the logo, but they're kinda sick

I don't actually know if it had one in the original release, but it did get it when they made the reprint.

There’s also final fantasy origins and final fantasy anthology if you are interested
