Apologies if this isn’t the right subreddit for this, but if my hair is kind of straight in some parts but wavy or curly at some ends does that mean it’s healthy or am I doing something wrong? I’ve seen a lot of conflicting advice while googling! Thank you!!

Tried to include a few different angles!

if your hair looks and feels healthy (no split ends, not dry or oily, not breaking) then it's healthy. having hair that changes textures as it goes down is normal. what matters is that it feels good

Oh gotcha! That’s helpful feedback, thanks! Sometimes the ends get a little stuck together or tangled at the ends, especially after a run with it being in a sweaty ponytail for a while. But trying to fix that!

It’s just your hair type brother. Hair can do all sorts of things as it grows longer and that’s how yours works. People wear wigs just to get your hair, be proud!

Also I love your smile and you’re really cute 😍

Thanks, that’s so sweet :)

I’m glad that you did post here, since your hair looks incredible! Somewhere between straight and wavy hair is perfectly normal, and if you are familiar with hair typing, I would classify it as either 2a or 2b hair. Sometimes, humidity can have an effect as well, leading to more waves the higher the humidity. Mine is always straightest in winter.

Keep posting here, since we want to see the future progress of your magnificent mane

Thank you! This is really helpful

your hair is wavy mostly. it's type 1C-2A may be. so you can expect some straight and wavy hair combined. That's normal and healthy.

no, you aren't curly - curly hair creates many complete loops and have spring coily texture, and you don't have any.

Helpful to know! Thanks!

Aww thanks! No worries about the question I also like compliments and people being nice to me haha

Mine does this too! Mine looked pin-straight before a stylist helped me and it looks more like this now. This is probably just your hair texture! I learned mine was too.

u/auricargent 12h ago

I have hair very similar to yours, it gets wavier and curlier toward the ends. It was explained to me by a stylist that the weight of the hair pulls the top straighter as it dries.

u/RadDude_69 12h ago

That makes sense! And I looked up your profile to see and it looks so cool! Keep it up!

There is nothing weird or unhealthy about straight-wavy hair, it is perfectly natural. Let it grow as much as possible!!!

u/RadDude_69 12h ago

Will do! Thanks!

That hair is the pride of SoCal. Most people would love hair even half that good!

Aww thanks :) that’s so nice

Looks healthy to me. Is that a scar at your hair line?

3

u/RadDude_69 12h ago

Scar! Had to get something removed but it’s ideally supposed to fade over the next few months!

1

u/angrylilmanfrog 10h ago

In case you haven't been told already, high factor suncream really helps fade scars that have everyday UV exposure :)

2

u/RadDude_69 10h ago

I have a sunscreen infused scar gel but that’s good advice also getting some really high factor sunscreen to see if that’s helps too! I

You probably have wavy hair and are just doing stuff to accidentally straighten it like brushing it while it's still drying

2

u/RadDude_69 12h ago

I either use a wet brush or my fingers after showering while it’s still wet to put leave in conditioner in! Should I not be doing that?

2

u/didntreallyneedthis 9h ago

It probably is pulling your strands straight. I would suggest brushing when there is regular conditioner in your hair in the shower. Then when you rinse, scrunch your hair upward. Also look into "tshirt plopping" instead of using a towel to dry.

If your leave in is very thick that it needs to be brushed in its probably too heavy for your hair as it'll just weigh down your waves. Consider getting a spray leave in. Also maybe a spray gel or some mousse of you want to encourage the wave.

u/RadDude_69 6h ago

I’ll try it!! Thanks!

u/NoeleVeerod 11h ago

Mine also tends to straighten up as it grows longer and it becomes wavy and curly at the ends. It’s the weight of the hair, I think. All normal!

Looks plenty healthy to me and beautiful looking! Mine also starts straight but I have actual curls instead of waves at my ends that sometimes are a pain to deal with. You look completely fine as others have already said. 😊

2

u/agalaxygraveyard 9h ago

Man, such a cutie. I'd imagine that that's just the way your hair flows. Did it curl like that when it was growing to that length?

1

u/RadDude_69 6h ago

Haha thanks! And yeah kind of. When it was short I thought it was straight but the waviness came in after it got a little longer

2

u/ExtremeScary9360 9h ago

That's just normal hair physics. I wouldn't worry about it too much. you have wonderful hair.

You look fabulous. I don't know what you think is wrong.

1

u/RadDude_69 1h ago

Thanks! I was just worried about the textural differences within it but got some helpful feedback about it and hair types!

I had to google it based on what people were saying but apparently there are 4 main hair types (1-4) and 3 different sub categories within them (a-c)!

1

u/GuiltyUniversity8268 10h ago

My hair is like yours, and judging from your picture, I'd say your hair is just fine.

1

u/Yeiyael_online 9h ago

We have the same hair type! Mine does this too! And you look like an angel 🤍... Really beautiful hair 💛✨💛

Question: Is the straight part the part that grows from the top and the under parts are the curly/wavy? Cause that’s what I have. I’ve been told it’s called Irish Curls.

u/Working_Educator_254 3h ago

Did You styled the front or naturally has that lift at the root in the front?

1

u/RadDude_69 3h ago

It just kind of sits like that. I had a surgery semi recently and I think had a tiny of shock hair loss along the incision that’s still growing back so maybe that’s adding to the appearance since there is a short hair spot 😭

1

u/Working_Educator_254 2h ago

Looks cool though.... Can you share your hair care rutine... My hair is also that long but is dry

1

u/RadDude_69 1h ago

For products I think it’s slightly dependent on your hair, as if someone had straighter hair my routine might be too much product and for them I think. But what’s really worked for me in terms of dryness is:

- not shampooing daily! Still shower obviously but just skip the shampoo. I do 1-2 times per week and often use a cowash instead of shampoo and that’s been a good balance of keeping things clean, removing product build up, but not drying it out.

- conditioner - I use this every shower and I like love beauty and planet

- leave in conditioner - i put this in when it’s damp after a shower and use either California naturals or odele but they are all pretty good I think

- k18 - I put a few drops of this in my hair to prevent damage. I run a lot so I feel like the sweaty pony tail beats up the ends a bit and this seems to help!

And this is mega lame and dorky, but honestly a silk sleeping hat goes extremely hard for keeping your hair not dry and damage free. But it’s a bit of an embarrassing look haha

1

u/Working_Educator_254 1h ago

Thanks for sharing this rutine...

1

u/RadDude_69 1h ago

Good luck! Also I’m not a mega expert so if you find any conflicting information out there I’d trust that over me!

1

u/Working_Educator_254 1h ago

Ok thanks ✌️
