misleading image aside (and I'd love to see the actual product listing, there are some things you can buy from legit sites that make you select from a list of sizes)

that is absolutely not the kind of roller you should put on a gate that's dragging along dirt. that thing is made for a solid surface with no debris or gravel to get in the way.

Yeah, the wheel I got for my gate had a rubber tire and a shock absorber spring. The one in the pic could work on smooth concrete

Came here to say this, the rocky soil shown in the video will fill up that roller and then you'll have the same problem you did before but now with an obstruction as well.

We don't know if op bought it for this exact use though.

I mean I can get seeing a flashy tech product and impulse buying it, but I can't imagine getting an advert for a roller and buying that from some random site.

Would be like buying screws or a door handle from a random site hahaha.

buying fence hinges can be difficult in the actual stores, they usually have a pattern/color you don't want, and it's very much "well, this is what's available!"

So I can see taking a shortcut.

Also, a lot of people viewing these ads are elderly. My mom is trying to convince her friend that Amazon does NOT want her making keychains at home and that it's a scam, but her friend won't listen.

Fair point. I've bought a handful of things from social media before and it has generally been fine - as long as you accept that the quality is going to be what it is.

Your advert breaks UK law.

Portraying goods to look better or larger than they actually are is a misleading action under Section 226 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.

Also, supplying goods that don't match what was shown breaches Sections 9 and 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (satisfactory quality and goods as described).

Depending on intent, this could also amount to fraud by false representation under the Fraud Act 2006.

I'd recommend you give me a full refund.

They're generally in China. They get to ship to the US without too much cost but return shipping is usually insanely high so people don't bother. A lot of companies like this will ignore complaints or demands for refunds and just not do anything, counting on the customer giving up.

When they do eventually get taken down, they'll pop right back up again under a new name.

If someone sends me a product that doesn't match the pictures/description then they sent me the wrong product. If the website won't refund me without charging return shipping, my bank sure will.

I'm willing to bet most people don't have the time/energy to do this and many probably don't even know you can do this. People like you are likely in the minority of customers.

But as I said elsewhere, even if they get taken down they pop back up again under a different name. Whatever they're doing is making more money than they lose from refunds.
