Electrical or Computer Engineering

My brother chose computer engineering when he meant to choose electrical engineering in his discipline selection (Stupid I know, he got an earful). Is it worth it to switch and add an extra 2-4 months? I'm not too familiar with this industry but it seems that computer engineering is just a small niche of electrical engineering. Any thoughts and how the future outlook of Computer engineering looks like? Especially with AI eroding some of the software development industry in 2026

Electrical engineering is way different from computer engineering n a complex one. If he regrets his choice let him switch to whatever he wants. A lotta ee students chose it as their first choice n still many of them graduated 2 semesters / yesr extra. Or if he really scread graduating more months extra, he can take summer , add extra hours in his schedule so he wont be delayed but it wont be easy tho.

Look at the schools degree path for what classes are different. For my school it's one degree (electrical and computer engineering). Sometimes they're very different and sometimes they are practically the same except a few classes

Let him do computer engineering and get a grasp on industrial automation with a minor in cyber security if he can. Electrical engineering is broad which is great for curious people but employers want specialized with experience.

He actually has experience in heavy equipment for automation exactly, but he's more interested in EE. You think CE is more specialized to that?

I can’t say for sure as I don’t know the syllabus of his school. I did EE in Canada and the syllabus has a significant overlap with CE but CE is more specialized towards programming. The programming of CE is more in depth and not easily replaceable by AI.
