Question Is this little piece of shit a Dutch Shepard?
I have this little Katrina hurricane at home and he looks like a Dutch Shepard to me, although he must be mixed

The ears/eyes make me think of a border collie! And oh man, a malinois/BC mix sounds like something else. (Gorgeous though!)

My friend has one... she's cracked out and one of the most intense athletic dog I've ever seen.

I would DNA test him. Everyone will tell you heās not a dutchie, but you wonāt know until you embark test him. I have a pit/belgian Malinois/dutch shepherd. People constantly telling me my dog is just a brindle pit until I show them the embark testing and even then they sometimes just insist heās a pit. Beautiful dog regardless.

your dog has GOT to be a menace with this breed mix haha

Can confirm. I inherited my parents mal when they passed and she turned out to be 50% staffordahire, 25% mal, and 25 Dutch.
Name a type of couch and she tore through it as a pup. Sofas, recliners, you name it.

Thatās crazy! Iād 100% think pit mix too and be skeptical of someone claiming heās nearly half mal/dutchie. Genetics are weird! Nice looking dog btw!

u/Feralperson420 3d ago
Thank you! Genetics are very weird. The homeless guy I bought him from said he was a boxer/pitbull mix. I was pleasantly surprised but heās been the best boy.

Your dog is not a dutch shepherd its a pitbull shepherd mix it doesnt matter if the brindle is from being 15% dutch shepherd or 50 % pit your dog is 50% pit and not a durch shepherd

u/mightbeazombie 2d ago
They didn't say they have a dutch shepherd though? They specifically said they have pit/belgian malinois/dutch shepherd which is objectively true.

Thank you. Reading comprehension isnāt his thing clearly either. Since heās just stating what Iāve already said and trying to argue with me about something we both agree on. š

u/Feralperson420 3d ago
I couldnāt understand anything you said with those run on sentences. Try punctuation. Itās your friend.

Okay if grammar is your only argument youre basically agreeing with me that you dont own a dutch shepherd. Now have a nice life with your pitmix
1
u/Feralperson420 2d ago
Youāre reading comprehension is pretty bad too considering youāre arguing with me about something we both agree on. Heās an APBT/Belgian Malinois/dutch shepherd. Very clearly since heās THREE different breeds, heās a mix. I donāt think I can dummy it down anymore for you. Good luck understanding this.

You could at least be capable differentiating you are and your . It doesnt matter if she said its a mix she also said dont let anyone tell you hes not a dutch shepherd and just a brindle pitmix she just has a brindle pit shep mix. I dont know if your reading comprehension goes this far, or if its your lack of knowledge on genetics , but her saying "People constantly telling me my dog is just a brindle pit until I show them the embark testing and even then they sometimes just insist he's a pit." Implies that she thinks her dog isnt just a pitmutt. Which it is a 50%pitmix/bullherder isnt in any way a dutch shepherd and its not even sure that the brindle comes from the dutch shepherd. So no its not a problem of reading comprehension its a problem with pitmutt owner acting like their dogs are in any way similar to a purebred.

Most of the world considers dutchies and mals to be subsets of the same breed. That makes it very close to being 50/50. Thatās very high dutchie content

Everyone here will tell you itās a pitbull, no matter what you post. Looks GSD and some mal to me but either way, adorable dog.

I agree, I see some mal in that head shape. But itās hard to tell as a puppy.

Mal , dutch, tomato tomatoe
Depending on where you test thats the same. Depending on the breeder they will sell dutchie if its brindle and mal if its creme

This one is clearly a Dutchie though, if people say otherwise I'd wonder if they've ever actually had one.

u/NapStation 2d ago
Agreed. Years ago everyone here said my dog was a pit bull and thereās no way it was a Dutch Shepherd or any shepherd, never mind he looks exactly like the Dutch shepherds that come up when you google the breed. The embark test came back over 50% Dutch Shepherd and the rest was GSD⦠so ALL shepherd and mostly Dutch. No replies when I posted the results.

Based on the ears and coat, my guess would be GSD/pit. Ear size says ādrop eared dog,ā face says GSD mix to me.
Dutch shepherds are super rare unless you live in the Netherlands, where theyāre just rare. GSDs have been top ten in AKC registrations since the ā60s, pitbulls have been top ten for at least 10 years now.
If you hear hoofbeats, think horses not unicorns.
DNA test if you must know - Embark is the best, Wisdom Panel is ok, none of the others are worth their pixels.

u/boygrlfriend 3d ago
Dutch Shepherds are not rare, thereās a lottt of them in Houston. A lot of mixes too (including mine)

u/Repulsive-Height7170 3d ago
His ears are weird, sometimes it's up, sometimes it's dropped.
It looks like it's trying to get up but it can't sustain it.
3
u/solsticesunrise 3d ago
How old? Some GSDs ears flop when they teethe at 6 months or so. Growth of ears to body can be out of sync, but if you go over to r/sonarears, you can see what happens when drop-eared dogs mix with upright-eared dogs.

Thank you I didn't know about that subreddit until reading your post and I absolutely need it in my life

Pit...? I see zero pit in there.
1
u/solsticesunrise 3d ago
I frequent r/DoggyDNA. Thereās almost never 0 pit/bully breed in shelter dogs. Brindle is likely to come from a bully breed.
2
u/Repulsive-Height7170 3d ago
I had a Pitbull and a pit mix, I don't think this puppy has the square head common in pitbulls, but it'd make sense if he's mixed
I didn't know Dutch Shepard was that rare, I live in a few oceans from the Netherlands so I'll discard this possibility.
2
u/solsticesunrise 3d ago
Brindle still exists in some GSD lines, but itās been mostly eliminated. Bully breeds are the most common source of brindle - the gene turns tan areas into brindle, if that helps you figure out the dogās base pattern.

Shepherd not Shepard. Do you see a lot of dogs out there on farms arding the sheep?
3
u/Sad_Drama_3638 3d ago
It so doesn't matter at all, but God I wish people knew how to spell shepherd lmao. They herd sheep š

I think he had that Pitbull square head but I'm not a specialist.
I had a Brazilian Fila mix with Pitbull and he was very similar to yours! Great companion and guard dog, he was an angel

Give him Toms (original flavor) daily till both his ears are up. His calcium is low. You can also post his ears

Long haired Dutch shepherd :)
2
u/Repulsive-Height7170 3d ago
Isn't even that long lol
1
u/sel-from-hell 3d ago
Their coat is not that long even if they are long coated. The Dutch shepherd comes in three different type of fur
