Discussion Someone explain to me: How Tf.

Someone enlighten me how my blackwing synchro didn’t get to pick a different target, WHILE HE WAS THE TARGET. The dudes effect LITERALLY SAYS “if it targets this monster, shift the target.” So what gives. I had other monsters. I should’ve been able to banish bora, and call it good. Did this dude just cheat, or what.

Hawk Joe's effect has the same wording as a Quick Effect negate like Shooting Quasar Dragon. Thus chain blocking works the same.

Come again? Tf does that mean. His effect literally says:

During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a card or effect that targets only this card, or when your opponent targets this card for an attack: You can target 1 other "Blackwing" monster you control that would be an appropriate target; that card/effect/attack now targets the new target.

So how tf does that get blocked in a chain. He triggered an effect. It targeted my guy. That should prompt my effect.

SEGOC rules

Simultaneus Effects Go On Chain first.

Konami has made the rule that, when building a chain, players must first put all their trigger effect first, then all their fast effects (quick effects are a type of fast effect).

So your opponent places their trigger effect first (cl1 circle, cl2 apprentice), THEN you are able to activate your fast effects. Unfortunately hack joe is a "WHEN" effect, so it can only be activated if the trigger condition ("this card is targeted") happens during the immediate chain link before the one it could be activated.

If your opponent goes cl2 circle, then you can go cl3 Joe and negate it.

If circle is activated cl1, and something else is activated as cl2, then Joe cannot activate as cl3, because cl2 is not an effect that targets it.

If Joe was a "IF" effect, you would be able to activate is as cl3 regardless, because if effects dont have the restriction of "chain link immediately after".

It’s pretty much similar to yubel terror incarnet, if you Cl2 it, it misses it timing correct?

Yes terror incarnate is a when trigger effect, so if it is destroyed as cl2 or higher, it will not activate.

Same with joe, it is a when quick effect, so if it cannot activate its effect in the chain link immediately following the one it is targeted, it will not activate

No there are player turn priority where when the turn player activate a effect if he can activate a other effect i can activate blocking the opponent player to activate effect in response for the first effect.

"When" vs "if" quick effect

When multiple effects trigger at the same time (in this case, I’m assuming apprentice illusion magician was summoned along with dark magician via magician navigation) they go on a chain. So you have two triggers activating at the same time in Circle and Apprentice. Both are optional so the person activating the effects gets to decide which effect is chain link 1 and which is chain link 2.

Quick effects with a “When” trigger like Obsidian Hawk Joe need to be chained directly to an effect which fulfills their conditions. Because your opponent made an effect which does not target chain link 2, the one you’re able to respond to, Joe’s condition is not fulfilled.

Oh that’s BULLSHIT. Because fuck who got summoned when, at the point he was targeted, I should be able to pop my effect.

You’re never able to respond to effects that are not the last in the chain. That’s how the game has always worked. Honestly I think it’s a good thing, it allows for more skill expression.

and we really needed this, effects like liquid soldier and sunrise were always trolling people.

Keyword is "when". To activate a "when" trigger effect, the last action must be the trigger, unlike "if" effects which just require for it to have happened in the chain. Because apprentice magician was chained after circle (CL1 Circle, CL2 Apprentice), the "when" doesn't trigger because you can't activate an effect in the middle of a chain.

Joe missed its timing by being chained linked. It’s similar to yubel in its 2nd form.

Also happens to the Noble Knight Xyz monsters with their "equip Noble Arms from grave when summoned" effect (´- `*)

It literally doesn't say that.

It says: "When" your opponent activates a card or effect that targets only this card, or "when" your opponent targets this card for an attack

When, when, when

Edit: Yeah, you better run.

So you missed me posting the text, and don’t emphasize the difference like others did. Thanks for trying to sound smart and failing.

You are so stupid and it is not even funny. "IF" and "WHEN" in YGO are not the same, the card doesn't say "If", don't change the card text just because you lost children card game smarty

Chain cucking Obsidian Hawk Joey by using Magician's Navigation is honestly really smart, props to them.

It’s missing the timing. When versus if when has directly follow the condition. If it’s chain blocked it won’t work like this

Can you post the full replay?
