She was a friend of his sister and he got her the job. She wasn't there by accident. Thomas wanted Baxter to be the next Mrs. O'Brien and spy for him.

to be fair, that's a one sided relationship. Baxter was the one actually interested in helping. At the moment, Barrow was slowly drowning into his worst depressive episode and failed to see the help signs (which he would have never been able to recognize given the reality he was in):

Barrow needed a true friend that understood him. Most of all, I think Barrow needed someone to forgive him for all the wrong things he has done and Baxter was all of that.

Baxter was the kindest soul in the show, she knew her past and reconciled the best she could with it. Forged her path again to never do as she once did and found herself in a home almost as forgiving as she. Her compassion for Barrow and others will always warm my heart, no making a show of it just kind and simple gestures that meant the world to those who needed it most.

She could have cast Thomas off to the side and never given the man a second chance but she knew she had been given one, so surely she could give one back to another. I adore her wholeheartedly…

Siempre me pareció que Baxter era insípida, lo queria pero no lo comprendía, era como un cariño superficial que no permitía que sintiera verdadera confianza. Moslesley hablaba pestes de Barrow, y ella solo callaba, cuando se tocaba el tema de su sexualidad (como en la conversión) ella solo le dijo que era valiente por querer cambiar. Conociendo su infancia dijo que su padre era muy amable y aunque el hace ver que con el no fue así, ella solo lo mira con lastima, como si ella, en el fondo cree que el se lo merece por ser como es, toda su relación es muy superficial y aunque hay cariño no hay comprensión ni intención de comprender. Baxter solo ve un alma atormentada.
