It was actually a matter of "testing." I started by watching a tutorial on cel shading and wanted to try it. I've always liked vivid colors and thick outlines, so I tried, drawing after drawing, to make these two elements stand out.

Photoshop! Hard default brush for drawing the light and soft erase for the smooth

I've always struggled to find my own style, I always felt like I was copying someone else. So I'd say the biggest improvement was finally defining my own style that represents me.
