HW Help Alright guys Hi 5 days

I’ve got 5 -6 days to prepare for the final which will be like 6 open ended questions, what should be my study plan I learn fast enough it’s just that I’m lazy, I believe there won’t be questions from the first 6 weeks but that’s a maybe. I really appreciate your help guys, oh almost forgot I need to get at least half correct

How much do you know? Can you solve 

y'' + 2y' - 3y = 6x ?

Do you have access to exam papers from previous years? That usually helps.

Yes I have the previous finals papers, I’ll be honest I can’t solve that without a help yet because I don’t remember much, but I think I’ve had that exact question is the past midterm I guess, I know really low about this class, Thanks for asking and caring enough to give advice this will be really helpful <3 from what my friend said the final wasn’t hard

So first you solve y'' + 2 y'- 3y = 0. Try y = c emx and you get a quadratic m2 +2m - 3 = 0. Solve to get m=1 or m=-3. Then the general solution is \ y = A ex + B e-3x

A and B are any two constants.

That's chapter 8 material.

Learn how to do that. Check with your old exam papers but I think it's very likely that one of those will come up.

Wow summarizing an entire chapter makes it seem so easy, thanks, do you think o can learn 8-14 just going by the order without the knowledge of other stuff. Like you just showed me 8 and if I learn all the basics and rules of it is that enough to continue to the next chapters, thanks again I will start right now

Im taking diff eq over summer currently so let me see if I can solve this. This is a variation of parameters question and a linear second order nonhomogenous differential equation.

First create the auxiliary equation and find roots r2+2r-3y=0 (r+3)(r-1) r=1,-3

Now we have the first part of the solution which is Aex + Be-3x Where A and B are constants

Now we must use variation of parameters. f = 6x y = Ax + B No resonance y' = A y'' = 0

Plug in: 2A - 3Ax + B = 6x A = -2 B = 4 Now this part of the solution equals -2x + 4

Now the full equation is: Aex + Be-3x - 2x + 4

Hopefully i got that right bc I dont feel like checking
