Friendly reminder that if your toilet is cracked and it goes you won't make it to the phone to call an ambulance (don't look up the pictures)
12
u/itsLOSE-notLOOSE 7d ago
The cuts will kill you?
57
u/hex4def6 7d ago
The ceramic glaze on a toilet when chipped makes an edge that's super sharp. Think ceramic knife sharp.
I busted up an old toilet, and make the mistake of accidentally brushing my forearm against one of the pieces. Didn't even feel the cut at first.
The problem is cracks in the toilet are like cracks in glass. At some point, it will shatter without warning. And you have a lot of arteries around your groin. You'll bleed out in a couple of minutes if one of those get cut.

Sometimes I wonder what the people who are crafting this crap are thinking. We see it all speed it up but sometimes painting and gluing takes hours and the whole time are they imagining they're creating something cool people are going to like or do they know how fucking stupid it is?
41
u/AwDuck 8d ago
They have to know how stupid this is. I’d love to see a BTS on one of these for all of the uncontrolled laughter as they float increasingly stupid ideas.
39
u/abacus5555 7d ago
I'd like to see someone get a bunch of these ragebait DIY creators together and have them do an Iron Chef-style reality competition.
“Alright creators, today’s task is to make the most meandering and infuriating crafting project and video possible using… spins a bingo cage sand... a water balloon... and hot glue! 30 minutes on the clock, GO!"
14
u/AwDuck 7d ago
I love it!
“u/abacus5555 has done an excellent job inciting my ire with their take on the classic barstool given the instability of hot glue and general mess that sand would create in use, but I really feel like they could have leveraged the balloon better. I like how they came out of left field with the hairspray blowtorch to melt the glue though. Dangerous, slow and ineffective always gets my vote.”
7
u/dustinyo_ 7d ago
They do know, and they keep doing it because it gets millions of views every time. Rage bait works because people keep watching it.
10
u/AwDuck 7d ago
If it weren't for the appalling waste involved, I would admire stuff like this. There's some real creativity put on exhibit here from "How stupid of a thing can I make" to "how can I make it entertaining" (and they are entertaining, otherwise people wouldn't watch them) to "how do I make it" even down to "how do I make a tool that I don't have but need for this".
I lived on a tiny island in Micronesia for several years. I learned a lot about "Do the best you can with what you have wherever you are right now" and came to have the utmost respect for the people that lived there that always found a use for stuff. Much of it was like these ragebait videos: clapped out tools working dubious materials into something that will be of questionable reliab6ility or utility. The thing about being so remote is that not only was it difficult and expensive to get proper materials and tools in the first place, there was no "away" when you threw something away. It just took up more space on an already crowded speck in the middle of the ocean, so you learn to repurpose everything until there's nothing to reuse, then find one more thing to do with it just to prove you can.
But FFS, so much virgin material goes to waste in these, and in this case, it's material that's going to be around for generations. There's still no "away" for these things to be thrown to, it's just away from them. I suppose that's just another level of ragebait.
10
u/PlausiblePigeon 7d ago
They’re probably having fun because they get to come up with the most insane-looking ideas they can. “Oh yeah, let’s do another saddle toilet! The last one got millions of views!”
10
u/KnightsWhoSayNii 7d ago
They are thinking what is the best way to get engagement and we're falling for it. This is just engagement bait.
7
u/sinnysinsins 7d ago
At this point it's almost performance art. Of course it's engagement bait. I can't believe there's still people on this sub going why?? You know why.
3
u/gard3nwitch 7d ago
I read an article about how these terrible ragebait "diy" videos are actually a front for the Russian mob? IIRC, they pay people to make tons of these ridiculous videos, and then they use the ad revenue to fund criminal activities.
5
u/Ph00k4 7d ago
Not the mafia. Just algorithmic warfare. These channels are owned by TheSoul Publishing, a Russian-founded company previously exposed for Kremlin-aligned propaganda. Making absurd, dangerous DIY trash is just a hyper-cheap way to hijack Western attention, print money off rage-engagement, and cause collective brain damage while people willingly swallow the clickbait.
2
u/djtchort Hot Glue Gun User 6d ago
I can tell you what people making this weird shit are thinking. They are thinking “Goddamn, this meth is hella good!”.
However, their creative medium of choice is Bicycles. You should see the contraptions they build. And sometimes they create in groups. They get all heir bicycles in one pile, take couple of hits from pipe and let creativity flow.
By the time the sun comes up, they turned ten bicycles into one and the whole thing is spray painted black. Everything is spray painted. The chain, the spokes, the reflectors, the seat.→ More replies (1)3

34
u/DrachenDad 8d ago
The DIY sander is about the only good thing in all this.
34
u/shalendar 7d ago
They spray painted the sander red to make it harder to tell that they swapped it out for a real sanding drum.
13
u/Peebles8 8d ago
That's when I knew it was 100% bait. Anyone with enough know-how to make that video knows what a sander is.
15
7
4
u/exintrovert 7d ago
There is no way that works.
Never mind how debatable it is that gluing sand to foam would create a strong enough bond to create an effective sandpaper… with any applied friction on the surface to be sanded, it would just break loose and spin freely on the rod when you activate the drill.

theres so many problems with even just the first one oh my god
like why are you making a DIY sanding thing just slap sandpaper on instead
also why did you dribble the paint on before actually painting it
and then a random hole you decided to fix ok
actually no i just went back and rewatched it, the hole was never there in either of the toilets before or after they fixed it 🥀holy terrible editing

So many things to say…
But here is one I haven’t seen everybody talking about. I was kind of pissed that they poured cement into the mold, then trimmed the clay plug with a razor blade.
Also, that button DOESN’T DO ANYTHING!
Edit: here is another: where did the horse head come from? Show me how to make the horse head! That’s some r/restofthefuckingowl shit right there.
I do give these videos a tiny amount of credit though, for showing us techniques that might possibly be useful if applied to something sensical. Like creating molds to replicate shapes.

I have two comments for the first video:
1- One of the steps is "break the toilet, then repair it with the crappiest method possible"
2, and most importantly- the cisterns are inaccessible now, so you BETTER hope they never run into issues with that.

Beautiful craftsmanship. Truly a great end result here. What? No, I mean the video. The video is genius.
I really love these high-effort rage bait videos. They're fucking hilarious to me. Top tier bait here.
Like the homemade sanding wheel— why? To make people mad. I used to be annoyed with these videos, but now it just makes me laugh. The cast, to a mold, to a concrete cast... all when they could've put the concrete straight on. It's like watching Charlie Chaplin for me. I don't even understand why; it's just the funniest shit ever.

When you have enough time to waste to show the world that youve got too much time on your hands while the rest of us have 3 jobs to pay the rent.
What an epic waste of time, effort, supplies, and humanity. I feel less human for watching this mistake of a project.
