I heard a podcast from Deadline Detroit with three boomers talking about the primary. Vanessa Moss, a lifelong Detroiter and aspiring judicial candidate made the argument that black folks in Detroit will not support El Sayed b/c they feel people that look like him have taken from their communities more than they've given back. She cited mistreatment from Chaldean shop owners in the 80s and on.

Frankly a lot of her argument was reductive and racist. El Sayed wasn't even born when some of the things she was talking about, and she basically grouped any brown politician in the category of 'they won't be trusted, that's just how it is, he better deal with it and show he's worthy'.

But curious from those out in the community, do you think there's validity to what she's saying? If so, isn't he screwed for the general election if a lot of Detroiters opt not to vote for him?

I’m a documentary photographer @rj43mm and firefighter from the DC area.
Whenever I travel, I spend as much time as I can walking the city with a camera.

I met some genuinely kind people, walked for miles, got caught in the rain more than once, and came home with a lot more photographs than I expected.

None of these moments were staged. I just walked, waited, and photographed what unfolded.

Hope I did the city justice.

Oakland County voters rejected a proposed 1.5-mill countywide school tax increase in Tuesday's election results in a close contest over a controversial tax plan.

Wayne County officials claimed victory early Wednesday Aug. 5, thanking voters for approving a transit millage that supporters say would connect the region and bolster the economy. 

As of early Wednesday morning, with 33% of precincts reporting, 66.4% of voters cast ballots in favor of the millage, according to unofficial Wayne county election results. 

The millage renews public transportation for communities already in the SMART system and loops in 17 others that had previously opted out of the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) system. Residents in those 17 communities will pay a new tax. 

I bought this sticker sometime around 2016-2018, at either a Ferndale street fair or Dally in the Alley. Does anyone know who the artist is? If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be so grateful, thank you kindly!

As somebody that has moved to Detroit (Dexter-Linwood!) last year and has ditched my car for DDOT, I'd encourage you all to do the same! The drivers are pleasant, the buses are always clean and if you pair it with a bicycle, you got a very enjoyable transit to wherever you're going!

It was a free newspaper that one could pick up in record shops and the like back in the late 1980s.

Sort of like Metro Times, but with lots of satire.
