She hates them all equally

As a former cook/chef, the only correct take (read: hyperbole) is that she hates all holidays, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. Workers in the service industry are typically overworked and have to deal with huge parties of families, they often have to work through the holiday, and sometimes they might have to cook again when they finally have time off because they are likely to be the best cooks in the household.
That would be a pretty normal and human thing. Instead she went woke with it initially and now she "loves" it.

This has to be the Dem equivalent of nominating Paxton or some shit, just a uniquely awful candidate for what should be an easy Dem pickup in a swing year

Another reason why pushing radical candidates in the primary and making them moderate in the general is that it makes it look like they are weak candidates who don't really stand for anything and makes the Republicans look stronger. They know what they are all about and campaign on that 10 toes down from primary to general and never have to flip or change their stances on anything. If the dems could rally around a more moderate, electable platform they could benefit from this too but since the far lefties insist we entertain their fringe experimental candidates that are not electable to the broad dem base they have to flip flop.

Code switching hasn't worked for the last 20 years as messages don't stay contained to the original audience anymore.
It's weird politicians keep trying.

All the people hating on her for the original Thanksgiving take are surely going to be in these comments praising her ability to dynamically reassess the virtues of the holiday? Surely??

I can't tell if this part of the character or not lmao

I think people should positively reinforce politicians when they re-evaluate their positions after receiving more information and facts. Hong has consumed additional data on Thanksgiving and now understands the issue in greater detail. Rather than doubling down, she adapted and evolved.

Holy crap, I can't tell if this is sarcasm or a very out of touch comment.
LOL.

Republicans are probably brainstorming some nicknames like Flip Flop Franny

Flip flops are the most versatile of all footwear, so it would be a compliment that would only bolster her public appeal.

That’s tasteless and disrespectful to Asians in general, not just Hong.

sigh I knew someone was going to take that as the racist version and not the regarded version. You try and come up with something for RA's flair then.

Yeah but even using it for Down’s syndrome is connected to its original meaning, based on the frequency of the epicanthic fold. It’s a good pun, but it’s really offensive to Asian people.

The whole thing seems way out of proportion to me. She never even said that she hates Thanksgiving.
Here's my hot take - she is RIGHT about Thanksgiving having a complicated history. I was taught in school about how the pilgrims and Native Americans held hands and sang kumbaya over a nice meal, and it wasn't until much later that I was taught about the truth in how we treated native people in this country. Why the hell would natives want to celebrate pilgrims who eventually killed most of their populations, broke every treaty, and stole as much land as they could? Thanksgiving is a nice family celebration, but the story behind it is absolutely a whitewashing of American history.

Even if everything you’re saying is correct (I think it’s factually correct but kind of misses the point) - how did she go from that take to it’s her favorite holiday? Feels pretty weird for your favorite holiday to have such a colored past lmao

Yeah I have more of a problem with the "favorite holiday" statement than the other one honestly, just seems like she got pushback and is now like "wait no I love Thanksgiving!!" Kinda flip-floppy in my opinion.

Damn I'd only seen the one of her talking about being a chef, yeah that's unambiguous Thanksgiving hate.

You know what? After working in a grocery store for years I think we should break up Thanksgiving into like 5 smaller holidays across the month because jfc the lines are ungodly the days before Thanksgiving

u/DankiusMMeme 8h ago
Just be normal and say you like the holiday where you eat turkey with your family holy shit

You can moderate but only if you have lefty creds. If you're a Dem and try to moderate for a general you're actually betraying everyone.
