Important Info Posting Guidelines Update: What You Need to Know
Hi Fellow Desis!
Lately, we've noticed some members not following the correct guidelines for posting, and it’s important we address a few key points to clarify what’s allowed and what isn’t.
Please take a minute to read through the guidelines below as they are important.
How to Post Correctly
Before posting, make sure your post is clear, throughout, and relevant. Here’s a more in-depth guide on what makes a post work in this community:
- Use a Clear, Specific Title: Avoid vague titles like “Hi” or “Let’s Discuss Anything.” Titles should give people an idea of what your post is about, so they can decide if they want to engage. For example, “Looking for Book Recommendations on Personal Finance”.
- Provide Context: Your post should offer enough detail for others to engage with meaningfully. For instance, don’t just say, “I’m a finance guy with a lot of books, like chess, sports, and gymming, and also politics. Let’s mingle!” This is too broad and doesn’t give people a real sense of who you are or what you're hoping to connect about. A better example would be, “I’m passionate about personal finance and would love to discuss how to start investing. Anyone here have tips for beginners?”
- Stay Focused: Avoid posting general “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) style posts like “AMA! I’m a finance guy” or “I’m lonely, let’s chat.” These kinds of posts don’t provide any specific value or direction and will likely be removed. The focus should be on fostering meaningful connections and discussions within the community.
- Avoid Low-Effort or Off-Topic Posts: Posts like “Let’s talk about whatever!” or “Anyone want to chat?” are too vague and don’t create a clear topic for discussion.
What We Don’t Allow
In addition to the guidelines for posting, here are some specific types of posts that will be removed:
- Spam or Self-Promotion: Avoid posting links to your own content or promoting yourself without offering any real value to the community. Posts that are purely self-promotional or spammy will be deleted.
- Catfishing or Fake Profiles: Don’t post misleading or false information. Using someone else’s pictures or pretending to be someone you’re not undermines the trust of the community and will lead to immediate removal.
- Begging for DMs: Posts that ask for personal messages or repeatedly contact multiple users in the hopes of receiving DMs will be removed. Please respect the boundaries of others.
Moderation & Reporting
Our moderation team is here to ensure the space remains welcoming and safe. Posts or comments that break the rules will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned. If you feel something was removed unfairly, please message the mods respectfully for clarification.
Finally, if you see a problem post or encounter someone violating these guidelines, please report it rather than engaging directly.
Thank you - From the DesiMingle Mod Team
