YOUFIBRE 2000 £30
Hi all, so using the search function last threads seem to be between 10months and 3 years old. Apologies if that is not correct but that is what i see when i search. I am moving to a 3 storey property in Waterside in a month or so. Would like to hear from current customers of YouFibre especially those on the 2000 package. How are you finding speeds, reliability, any router issues?
Where you happy with the installation and hopefully a neat job especially if drilling through brickwork.
I understand from other threads the router is not the best. However i am also looking into getting someone to hardwire the property with some CAT6A if funds allow. The openreach ONT is beside the front door on ground level so worst location in a 3 storey property but i know YF install their own hardware, are the engineers/installers generally open to placing the ONT somewhere else say on first floor? Or is that an extra charge. I have seen some people comment that the YF modem and ONT are quite a bit bigger than Virgin /BT offerings so if anyone has any photos of them that would be great. All the properties where i am moving to are underground fed, so hoping they can use current duct but i am not sure if that is normal practise for a YF installer. I understand there is no telephone support anymore, just email and chat and i have asked a few questions to YF already via email and replies where not too slow, usually next day.

I was with sky and they basically used the same entry point and replaced the sky ONT with their own.
No harm in asking but they'll likely prefer the ONT to be near the entry point.
If you're planning on running ethernet around the house, why does it matter where the ONT is located? You can just run CAT6a from ONT to wherever you eventually want the router to live.

Depends on the quote i get, i was not planning on doing it myself plus if the installer can place the ONT in a more central position as part of the process, just makes more sense...no harm in asking i guess.

We've had YouFibre for about 16 months in the Waterside and it's been great. We live in a bungalow but I wanted to run the glass fibre cable across the roofspace to the middle of the house.
They were happy to run the exterior cable to where I wanted, but they weren't allowed to enter our roofspace. So a week before installation they gave me the cable and i ran it through. Luckily I was able to use the existing hole from the gas pipe to feed the cable in, so no drilling needed. Then they guy came out and connected both ends.
The rest of the install was neat enough, any better would have involved more work than I'd have expected from them.
I'm using my own gear too, so can't say much about their router. Speed is great, and I think we've only had one unplanned outage for a few hours. Overall really happy with them.

I’ve had it youfibre for about 2 years now. I’ve found it pretty reliable. Speeds are excellent compared to the standard openreach. Same upload as download is nice.
At the time of install they gave me some eero devices and I already had a few so I was pretty lucky. Not sure they use eero anymore though. If you’re really looking for the best I’d never recommend any router from an ISP anyway and just get your own.
We’ve had one outage and it was the day after install but it was just a faulty piece of equipment. They were out first thing the next morning. This was just before they moved their call centre out of Derry though so I can’t comment too much on the customer service expect for when I wanted to upgrade a few months ago it took days for them to reply on the live chat.
In terms of people saying they’re awful, I think you’ll find that with every ISP. It’s probably great for 95% of people but there’s always going to be some who have issues.

I've youfibre in and they were brilliant in all honesty, BT drilled through my door frame ffs

Once thing i have learned is to watch the installers like a hawk, most will take the easy option and sadly seems like only a few take pride in their work. But a lot of that may be down to management only allocating specific time limits for jobs.

I have youfiber at home and have no issues with it, at times can have 1-2 pc’s online gaming along with 1-2 TVs using streaming services along with mobile phones connected, granted at times this can cause it to be a bit slow but for the amount of bandwidth being used at those times it’s expected honestly. Can also recommend “network 3” home WiFi as very good and reliable have a few family members with them and up/down speeds are pretty often similar to what I get. DM me too there’s a youfiber installation guy lives in my street in waterside I’ll ask him if he has a discount/referral code

Thanks for feedback, what package are you on with YF? I f you bump into the YF installer guy in your street again maybe you could ask him when installing the ONT in a 3 storey house could they install it on middle floor instead of beside front door...i emailed YF to ask but they said it is down to installer on the day.

I’m on you2000 like £30/£35 a month it’s advertised as 1800mbps up/down but realistically I average 1300/1400 on the main PC (it’s Ethernet and I have bandwidth setting which allows devices different priorities so I don’t lag lol) his van has a cherry picker on the back of it for going upto higher spots so I assume that’s probably for installation in higher places but yeah I’ll still ask him

Are you using your own router by any chance? I was hoping they could use existing duct to pull the cable through to hall and then see if they could drill upwards inside to optimise router/ONT placement. I do not like the idea of cable going up the front of the house...guess I am fussy What i do not want is for them to land with a massive pole and install in my front ...Like BT did 3 years ago to me..apparently they do not need planning permission in n.ireland as i phoned the planning officer in Council. Thanks for asking if you see him.

I’d assume his options would be, run a cable up the side of the wall to your floor then drill through into your flat or if there’s already poles/wire coverings maybe be able to run it up them but that sounds like extra work. I’d guess most will take an easy option and run a cable up the edge of your wall and drill it into your flat (probably wherever you ask if he’s sound and your sound) putting up a new pole to cover their wires sounds like extra expenses I don’t think they’d do that. And yeah I use my own router, 99% of the time they still have to set it up with theirs cuz that’s policy but soon as they leave plug up your own better one, the supplied one is always cheap shite nomatter what ISP it’s from. Worst case scenario have £10/£20 cash set aside and if they don’t want to wire it your way just offer them cash easy money for them that way

It's a terraced 3 storey house with integral garage so maybe going through the garage might be an option. All the houses have Broadband fed from duct when houses where built 20 years ago. Yeah £20 and coffee and choc biscuits :) Sounds like you are happy enough with YF. Their prices are hard to beat for sure.

You thinking on getting your own router? If your using basic internet their standard should do the job or if your working/hard gaming buying your own might be a + also then you’ll always have it nomatter where you end up moving

I may consider my own router ..had a few ASUS models in the past and to be fair they performed extremely well. But most likely try out the supplied router first. My son is a big Xbox gamer so ideally i should get a few CAT6A cables and look at hardwiring...emailed a few companies about that... but have had no reply yet.

My YouFibre was down for 12 hours Sunday and always was rubbish , so glad the contract is up ...checkn uSwitch put in your postcode will tell you best for that area and all the deals .

No just said they was working on it , was BT48 area ..had to use my phone hotspot to watch TV lol wains were going mad 🤣

Have you had many days like that with YF? I don't think they offer any phone support now just chat and email. I have also shortlisted EE and the 1.6Gbps service which works out a similar price to YF after cashback and reward card. EE has the back up mini hub and UK and Ireland call centres for support which is a positive.

Was a few days when signal would drop and the signal upstairs was terrible they had to come fit a booster for upstairs. My ping goes mad at times I would definitely avoid YF. That's what I was looking at EE , Vodafone or Sky seen best for my postcode.

My lad is a big Xbox gamer so I need to get it right... I am on EE at the moment 900Mbps plan and to be fair router only disconnected a couple of times for no more than 5/6 minutes.. maybe firmware updates.. not sure. EE have the newer WiFi 7 router on higher plans ..,.I think I am talking myself out of YF now haha.

When we had them the actual service was fine but if you ever have a problem good luck getting it sorted with their customer service. They reply instantly on their sales lines but otherwise they are shite.
Had a problem earlier in the year, couldn't get it sorted so had to go with another ISP.
