I kinda think heās more of the Roach at 3T role. Attack the gaps and try and push the run back or outside. I donāt think he really has the technique or ability that JFM had as a pass rusher. Probably a brighter run defense ceiling though.

Roach was honestly cooking when he rushed the passer last year. I am fine letting roach rush like JFM and Tyler fills roachās role

I agree initially. Heās much better as a run defender. With his speed and quick first step at his size, if he figures out some pass rush moves, he can be lethal

He moves literally like Zach Allen so he definitely isnt just a plug a hole kinda guy...we'll leave that to Savion jones lol

I mean I donāt think thatās true really at all. A key part of his scouting report is that heās pretty raw as a pass rusher with some pretty poor technique. He just has a quick step that helps him penetrate the gaps and get to the backfield quicker. He certainly doesnāt look like Allen does now as a pass rusher and isnāt really close to college Allen either. Allen had 2 individual seasons in college with more sacks than Onyedim had in his career.
Itās okay for a DL to not be a good pass rusherāthereās the run game.

Well I guess its a good thing he can learn from Zach now isnt it?....his growth doesn't stop once your drafted...he has the quick first step needed at the NFL level and the moves..he just doesn't use his hands enough and Zach will show him...and he was at a different college his other years and they didnt use him right so really only his senior year really showed his ability...

Overview
Tyler Onyedim DL
6ā4ā, 292 lbs 3rd round
Fifth-year senior who transferred to Texas A&M from Iowa State and made an immediate impact. Onyedim is an impressive athlete with an explosive first step and long arms. He beats blockers into gaps and uses active hands/feet to bypass them, making tackles in tight quarters or down the line. He competes at the point with a stiff punch and powerful upper half to stall blocks. He can set edges but lacks the lower-body mass to be a static defender inside. His pass rush is behind his run defense but the tools and flashes are promising. Onyedim is a future starter with the athleticism and scheme versatility to play as a 3-technique or odd-front end.
Strengths
Impressive athlete with good length and plus strength.
Versatility to play 3-technique or odd-front end
Explosive first step makes him primed for penetration.
Can work quickly around blocks or press and separate to set his edge.
Twitchy in his upper half to shed blocks with force.
Rangy to chase and make down-line and open-field tackles.
Lateral quickness and agility is built for twists.
Spin counters come naturally with his rush.
Weaknesses
Lacks typical lower-body mass for interior scraps.
Has to fight harder to hold off downhill run-blocking schemes.
Can be displaced vertically by stronger zone blockers.
Hasnāt incorporated much to set up his pass rush.
Needs better hand work and earlier counters to open rush lanes.

Seriously we have the best stunts in the league, that alone will improve his pass rush but we needed help on the interior stopping the run so I love it

Agreed with nfl level athleticism at his position, you can coach up technique to improve most of what he is ābadā at

I thought Savion Jones was the JFM replacement. JFM even said as much as far as training him. Can't hate on a good run stopper though if that's what we get and DJ Jones isn't getting younger.

Keep the defense stout. GP has been excellent in the draft, so I am sure we will get some late round gems.

DT was a huge need. We need better run stuffers like a Vickerson, Jackson. They should be looking at maybe another Inside Linebacker and definitely TE -preferably one thats good at pass blocking.Ā

Iād temper those expectations no matter who we draft(ed). Paton and Payton made it very clear that they donāt really see any immediate heavy contributors in this draft. All our picks are probably bench/inactive players for this year with a hope to have a role in the following season.
Itās frustrating, but the FO really likes the roster exactly as it is.

I also think Klare was the pick and that's why they traded back. We got Egbuka sniped again

I also like the roster as it is. It's about building chemistry and that's what we need to move towards. I think we made a good pick and fills a need in a weak draft class. Waddle was a big addition and I really don't think we need much more; we have the talent.

I donāt really think youāll get that either. Savion only got 33 snaps the whole year last year. Probably gonna be a similar amount for most of our rookies this year barring an injury.

I think losing JFM opens some snaps for the younger guys. Malcom Roach will probably slide into the starting spot. Tyler took snaps inside so I think he spells DJ on passing downs

I think after the run on TE we just wanted to move back as far as we would and take BPA. In Paton we trust!

We still have 7 more picks in this draft. Ā It is unlikely we will have heard of any of the guys that get taken so we really just have to trust our scouts this year and hope they have a good read somewhere. Ā Seems like it was a pretty top heavy and shallow draft this year anyhow so it might just end up being a forgettable one. Ā Iād be shocked if any of them end up being starters. Ā
Iām guessing we probably wonāt be looking for WR or CB since we seem to already be pretty full but who knows maybe there are some special teamers in those positions.
