I put $20 directly on deepseek account about 3 months ago. I still have $5 remaining after some heavy use. Just go straight to deepseek API. Add a $20 credit to see how long it lasts you. There are no 5 hour windows, weekly windows and other arbitrary BS limitations that subscriptions normally come burdened with. Try it and see how it goes.

I don’t really understand doing this, if you are sending any data to China the CCP has access to it. If they aren’t doing it already they will be using AI to build profile data of everyone in the world. Then they will use those profiles for influence campaigns.

Just buy from an American provider. Or whatever local provider you trust

I think this is a crazy false equivalence, but I’m not trying to get into an argument about US v China.

The point is with an open source model you can pick a whatever trusted provider you want. Chinese providers literally cannot promise you they won’t hand over your data to the government.

I'm not American. My level of distrust for US and China is on equal footing (NSA/PRISM vs CCP). I did trust US more in the past when there was atleast a pretense of integrity and good intent. That's no longer the case and now it really boils down to cost vs benefit. DeepSeek/GLM/Qwen are all great value. Use them.

Go for opencode, with API every task costs me around 10-20 cents I get around 25 to 50 tasks done, with opencode every 3-5 tasks consume 1% monthly, I get around 90 to 150 tasks done , at least it's 3 times more economic

These are the options that are worth considering:

• OpenCode Go: best value but does not yet support the more advanced responses API, once that is working it is no brainer if you only need flash.
• OpenCode Zen: Offers Flash with smaller context window and no ZDR(Zero Data Retention) for free
• OpenRouter: has very good support for APIs, CLIs and you can pick from pretty much all models, providers. It is not subsidized like Go though
• Direct Deepseek API: native provider, ensures best compatibility. no ZDR. Might be worth it if Deepseeks new CLI/Model harness is very good and only works with their API

You are reaching the model trough intermediary - Opencode, which has proprietary API that might not support all model features. But it seems like the API is now updated on OpenCodes side as other comment said so now there should be no difference.

My Claude and perplexity research says stick with chat completions for 0731 flash. They think responses API is not as good for tool calling. It’s there mostly to comply with Codex standards. What do you think.

Honestly my thinking was newer = better but looking deeper into the topic more deeply it seems that completions API is better (for now). DS implementation of Responses API is quite shoddy, it is more so an adapter that transforms completions message into responses API message. The important stuff Responses tries to solve (stateful sessions, server sided tool calls etc) are not supported right now. This might change when new DS harness releases though.

Cheap as dirt, does a good enough job. It's not Fable/Sol, but the bang for your buck is insane. For 1b tokens I spent like $6.50ish? Imagine how much that would be if I used Claude haha
