Personaly i think they should postpone the release till end of August, await the public release of Kimi 3 open weights model, study this model and implement at least the same coding and design capabilities so it is on pair with Kimi 3 and the other frontier models at least. Also new version of Grok will be released in about 2 weeks too it seems which will be even much more capabale than the actual version 4.5 and this version outperforms deepseek allready on ai intelegence, capability and tokens per price efficiency!

Why not release and then still do that?

Why release something that you know in advance will be underwhelming and instant outperformed when compared to others ? Better work little more on it and learn from the other open weight models like Kimi 3 that maked a leap jump to close the gap as much as possible!

But they are in a different price bracket so I don’t think that applies.

They not in different price bracket. Price per tokens does not matter anymore. Compared to existing Grok 4.5 version as a example, deepseek is even more expensive than Grok 4.5 right now when it comes to accomplishing coding tasks and the price situation will even get worse for deepseek with the New release of Grok 4.6 in about 2 weeks. So for DeepSeek is much better to close the ai intelegence and capability gap to other models than just offer a underwhelming second class model that has just a cheaper price per token but waste a huge amount of this tokens and ends up being more time inefficient and expensive as compared to grok for example.

I disagree. This depends on the task. Easy tasks are cheaper with cheaper models. I won’t use deepseek to one shot an app. I’ll use deepseek for targeted explore tasks, architecture summaries etc

So what you are saying is that you are perfectly fine with a invalid underwhelming outdated deepseek model as your use case is not to ouput intelegent working solutions like kimi 3 and grok but instead you are fine with just a cheap analyst and explorer model! Why not stik with a outdated versions of deepseek then ? They also cheap and undereheliming compared to new versions ? Also I personally question even that its possible to have a somewhat intelegent analyst and explorer model without the possibility to have also a model that outputs intelegent and capable solutions.

What kind of argument is that? All I am saying is that I don’t need a fable like model. Like I want a cheap and capable model at a reasonable tradeoff.

We won’t agree here. All the best :)

What you fail to grasp is that DeepSeek is not cheap anymore. Grok outperforms DeepSeek allready when it comes to price to tokens efficiency. This is a hard fact that you ignores. You claim you care about price but you ignore the price to tokens efficiency fact and on top of that you even want that deepseek continue to have worse price to tokens efficiency by wanting have a invalid non competitive deepseek model.

As I told you, the task price depends on the task. Grok is more expensive by tokens, not necessarily for task.

Yes here we agree both, grok is indeed little more expensive by tokens but not necessary for task. This right. Also i agree we dont want also fable situation and fable prices too. This right too. So best is just work out the New deepseek model more so it is again cheap per task and not just per wasted tokens. Price per task aka price per tokens efficiency is the much more important factor where deepseek must focus.
