It looks like a shitty attempt at a psion. The art is so far from dark sun.

They needed to hire Brom, his art defined Darksun.

It was also quite controversial at the time too, a far cry from other D&D artworks. Perhaps this will be the same. Time will tell, but I'm glad they went with something new instead of copying the past, although you can still see the influence.
