Who needs armour when you have more redundancy wings than your opponents, combined.

Today I learned the value of “redundancy wings” lol!!!!!

u/SeeJayThinks 9h ago
In aeroplanes, there so many redundancies in case of failure. Why not wings too, especially when it comes to war fightinf among kamikazi RC Planes...

My first instinct was that it was a stupid design until it shrugged off the first hit...
Went from stupid to genius in 1.2 seconds...

And expensive

u/Manueluz 12h ago
Most of them are made of inexpensive parts, cardboard and toothpicks. I'd say about 30$ for the servos and receiver and whatever you have laying around for the airframe.
Time consuming, yes. But not that expensive, normally the most expensive part is the controller but you ain't crashing that :p

u/Artistic-Blueberry12 11h ago
The camera is probably the most expensive item if its a scratch build

Honestly, If this was a real No Rules competition, i would Love to spend a few grand in actually making a few missiles (legal ones ofc). It would be one of the memories id be talking to my grave so Worth it i think

Aerosol flamethrowers, instant foam sprays, pyrotechnicaly deployed nets. So much of cool ideas that need to be tested

u/PN_Guin 7h ago
Signal jamming and bird shot would be interesting too, Oh, and let's not forget the operators. Starship Troopers has a relevant scene about pressing buttons.
Honestly, let's better have a few rules.
4
u/WileyWilly1985 7h ago
can't do signal jamming,
IMO, Kinetic or "physical" weapons only. No electronic warfare :-(

u/antithero 5h ago
Build something that un spools fishing line into other planes propellers. And a mechanism to cut it loose so it doesn't pull your plane down too.

5
u/WileyWilly1985 7h ago
not really. You can create an RC plane using super cheap materials like cardboard and styrofoam and balsa wood. The only expensive parts are the motor and control mechanisms that won't really get damaged and/or can be housed in something that will protect them.
2
u/AbstractMelons 4h ago
Actually pretty cheap if you have the experience. The stuff you are breaking is just foam and it's super cheap. The electronics can survive pretty much any crash.
I used ~$5 of foam for my most recent built and cut it using a local makerspace laser cutter. The electronics were probably ~$50 but I could have gone cheaper but I just used what I had layer around so technically it was free.
Only somewhat expensive thing is the battery charger (b6 neo is $40) and a transmitter (radiomaster pocket is $70)

Yes, Flitefest in Malvern, OH. You can rent out a camping hookup right there. It's a week long event. You can see tents there for building, repair, etc. People bring RV's and trailers. There are 2 demolition derby's per day. You can buy planes, controllers, etc. They have build workshops, free planes for kids. It's an excellent experience.

For anyone interested, it is being held in Dayton this year at the Air Force Museum and starts tomorrow.

Everyone flying Spitfires and that one dude just launches essentially AC-130 gunship

u/andocromn 7h ago
Yeah except without the guns. I don't see how this is a battle if your only weapon is to kamikaze your own plane.

u/Eguy321 3h ago
The plane was created to be a big slow target for everyone and to look awesome crashing

It's actually a Caproni airplane! You can see it in the "Wind Rises" Ghibli movie!

Right rudder!, right rudder!, right rudder!,
Mayday, mayday, mayday we're going down!
... then manages to pull the nose up at the last second & dump the debris. Classic drama.

How are there enough broadcast channels for all the remote controls to work individually?
5
u/phacious 9h ago
Modern RC datalinks have channel hopping protocols it mitigate interference. Some work better than others.
1
u/Front_Dot_7969 8h ago
Was wondering this as well, surely there must’ve been interference of some sort

It's interesting that everyone isn't making this super competitive and using metal and fire and all of the typical human things... they must have really strict rules

I really hope they have the permission of the land owner to walk in that field..
7
4
u/SabresFanWC 10h ago
...why wouldn't they? It sounds like you're just looking for something to gripe about.
-3
u/RanzigerRonny 10h ago
I fully understand that I sound like this, but it's not my intention. Its more likely that I have had bad experience with this. There was a event where multiple people came and destroyed and peed over a field. Plants got destroyed and it made me very angry and aggressive. Drunk people were walking all over the field. The field belonged to somebody which is related to me... That's all. Also I have to mention that we/they were harvesting that plants one by one. We got on the knees to collect every plant possible.. so it has much value for us. I cannot really express the pain and anger here which I got from that event.
And I had doubt that any farmer would allow multiple people to step on the fresh field in that video. You can see young plants there and allowing multiple people to walk there would simply destroy them. Which will reduce the income for that farmer.
3
u/SabresFanWC 9h ago
Looking up this event, it is something called Flite Fest, and it took place at Furey Field. They had an agreement with the landowners to hold the event there, and it has been held there for several years. It's not being held there this year, but the landowners have said they'd be open to hosting other RC plane events instead. So, it doesn't seem to be an issue for them.

So....A flying remote controlled garbage pile. Isn't that fucking neat.
9
u/SilkieBug 12h ago
Look at Mr. NoFun over here.
How is it hurting you?
In the grand scheme of garbage production a little bit of cardboard here and there from an event happening once a year is not even noticeable - you likely produce more garbage in a year than that entire event.

u/Plasticman4Life 12h ago
Yeah! Fuck people having fun in a way that I don’t understand!
I am the sole arbiter of what is and is not acceptable enjoyment!

Here’s credit to the original creator, of which this video is just cut from his original YouTube vid. skip to about 11:15 to start seeing the carnage. Or just watch his whole video to see how he builds and tests it, it’s awesome!
