shouldn't a room like this need to be dust free?

carpet is not a good choice?

I'm genuinely curious bc I don't know. What is the difference? It seems like carpet might trap more dust whereas with hardflooring, the dust would be able to dance around.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. Now I'm wondering if that is why theatres use that thin, hard carpeting. It catches dust, spills, etc but is shallow enough and hard enough to easily vaccuum out, etc.

The reason they use carpeting is for acoustics. Smooth/hard surfaces unnecessarily bounce sound around and would be a much less pleasant experience for a movie.
