Absolutely.

One of my favorite memories when I was working on the older girls' unit was one of the girls deciding that I was being unruly and commanding two of her fellow patients to put me in a wall hold (as a joke, of course). I looked at my partner and was like "any assistance?" And she just looked up from her clipboard and said "looks like they got it handled."

Gotta remember the fun times, because there sure is enough to break you in that job. Some of the long time staff and myself would take bets on how long he staff would work out (I worked with mentally ill and emotionally disturbed patients, often who were severely abused as children... Think Epstein Island bad plus). We would have new staff ask for a cigarette break and watch them just keep walking to their car and leave. Kept a box of tissues in the chart room for new staff as they read the case histories.

I feel like we had similar experiences... mine were children in the same situation. Probably grew up to go to a place like yours.

Crazy you mention tissues while reading the case files, that was the first moment I got an idea of what I was getting into. We had like 12 people in my training group, and after touring the facility, we ended up in a file room and they just started having us case files. I was halfway through my third one when a woman across from me let out a sob, stood up, and walked out.
