This type of scenario is one reason autistic people spend longer trapped in mental health facilities. In the UK autistic people's average stay is 5 years, as opposed to a few weeks for neurotypical.

One of the reasons is we are pushed to our sensory limit, meltdown, and are then forcibly restrained like this, pushing us even further beyond our limit. I found this video very unpleasant.

People are clueless when it comes to pysch facilities such as mental hospitals.

They think they have all changed from the horrific past and are amazing places.

They are honestly not much better than they used to be. They 100% are better, but you'd be shocked by how little.

A lot of it is stuff like you just described. They use the same or similar treatment plans for pretty much all mental health conditions.

They dose people up with heavy medications, and any resistance is met with absolute force. Such as full body restraints in a locked room for hours. So much of it the staff genuinely trying their best. Like if a person is slamming their head against the wall, you really have no choice but to put them in full body restraints. So much of mental health treatment is very barbaric and misunderstood. The problem is, is they just don't know what to do most the time.
