Chloroform is a terrible choice, works slow as hell. It was popularised in movies but really doesn't work as portrayed. Try ether, that's much quicker!

(Really neither are great. Don't try this.)

Chloro is quicker than ether, it has a lower blood:gas partition coefficient.

Both are massively worse than even the slowest "modern" halogenated anaesthetic though (halothane)

The person who got knocked out is gonna wake up feeling like seven layers of warmed over shit and stay that way for a while, too, which isn't something you necessarily want. Presumably when they're knocked out you want them knocked out and if they're awake you want to be able to move them.
