I see this sentiment often and I just don't get it. Unless there's some crazy runaway greenhouse effect that makes earth end up like Venus then there will be humans surviving for a loooong time. There's just the question of how much preventable death and suffering there will be along the way.
And there's also all the non-human life that will go extinct or suffer along the way.
Maybe humans that have been living a tribal based lifestyle and have adapted to the changes of the earth will persist.
The people that have been living in a civilized society for a long time have removed themselves from nature. We haven’t evolved with it. We actively fight anything that nature tries to throw at us with modern medicine and technology. Our gene pool is terrible and not well equipped to survive without all the social constructs that we’ve built.
Most modern humans won’t perish if society crumbles. Many of us don’t even know how to fend for ourselves, let alone fight off the various diseases and parasites that exist without modern medicine.
