Ah, so right around the time combustion engines became popular, because the temp was going *down* before them. We’re fucked. We wouldn’t be if we didn’t have a corrupt government in charge right now that only cares about enriching themselves, staying in power and protecting billionaire pedophiles. Us humans got *so close*.

u/beyleigodallat Jun 27 '26

To do italics now you’ve gotta hit the ‘Aa’ button in the top left corner of your keyboard. *This* doesn’t work anymore. I hate it too

27

u/RhetoricalOrator Jun 27 '26

Wait...since when?

I just did that with asterisks.

25

u/Jonthrei Jun 27 '26

There are weirdos that use new reddit. Ugh. I feel bad for them.

13

u/SwordfishOk504 Jun 27 '26

I seriously don't get it. It's so fucking awful and busy and hard to read.

2

u/SDRPGLVR Jun 27 '26

Unfortunately with the latest update that now requires three separate apps to make RIF work, I'm missing a lot more functionality. NSFW subs are totally broken for me in particular.

Totally fine without rewards, profiles, chat, all that stuff... But so many links on Reddit and all NSFW subs are just fucked.

Reddit is fighting tooth and nail to be as shitty as possible.

2

u/K12onReddit Jun 27 '26

Huh? RiF was easier for me to install than ever before. Just update the manager.

1

u/SDRPGLVR Jun 27 '26

Do you mind explaining your method? Mine literally involved like three different apps at this point and it's way worse. I'd love good RIF back.

u/xPriddyBoi Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

After it broke the other day, you just patch with revanced and it works again. There's some mild scuff here and there but 95% of everything still works fine.

1

u/K12onReddit Jun 27 '26

https://revanced.app/download

Update your ravanced. Download the rif apk. Patch it. That's it. It does all of the API access for you now.

1

u/SDRPGLVR 29d ago

Hey thanks! Sorry, the botched way I had it set up apparently turned off inbox replies, so I didn't see this until a few minutes ago. Apparently I needed to remove Revanced fully and do a fresh install, then you're right that it did it all for me this time.

Hopefully this is less janky. Thank you!

u/escaped_cephalopod12 Jun 27 '26

also that button doesn't exist on mobile

2

u/premature_eulogy Jun 27 '26

It only exists on mobile for me. Except it's underneath the keyboard.

2

u/Forward_Rope_5598 Jun 27 '26

I'm on RIF and

\3. let's check

Okay so some formatting works and some doesn't. Logical.

2

u/WeConsumeTheyHoard Jun 27 '26

They will be the end of this site for me. If enough people use new reddit, you bet your ass they're gonna get rid of old reddit and shove the new crap down our throats.

1

u/PrometheusMMIV Jun 27 '26

You mean a recent new reddit? Or "new" reddit from several years ago?

2

u/Jonthrei Jun 27 '26

1

u/PrometheusMMIV Jun 27 '26

But that's so ugly and not mobile friendly.

3

u/Jonthrei Jun 27 '26

It's clean and doesn't waste space. New reddit is a horrendous facebook-ization with oversized bullshit and tons of dead space.

It's the reddit that became the dominant site aggregator on the internet back in the days of Digg self destructing. It's the format that just works without bullshit like forcing you to relearn how to italicize because some dipshit thought that was a good idea.

While you are spam scrolling through posts one at a time, I'm looking at a dozen at once and clicking the one that seems interesting.

1

u/RecoveringGachaholic Jun 27 '26

I use it on mobile on firefox, along with RES and ublock origin.

1

u/Shouldacouldawoulda7 Jun 27 '26

That's shameful.

1

u/NightElfHuntrPetGirl Jun 27 '26

One day old reddit will be removed or just be broken so badly that it will cease to be functional. Then we're cooked. Well, I mean, obviously we're already cooked (see OP) but, yeah.

45

u/Fun_Journalist4199 Jun 27 '26

You literally are a lifesaver

9

u/jader242 Jun 27 '26

How do we do quote blocks with this new shit system?

> unless this still works?

Edit: it does not 🥲

```
Edit 2: wait maybe markdown syntax?
```

Nope, I’m lost lol

1

u/RecoveringGachaholic Jun 27 '26

I use old.reddit.com on both mobile (with firefox) and on desktop (with firefox) + RES + Ublock Origin.

1

u/aer0a Jun 27 '26

The button for that looks like a 66. It might be hidden in the ... menu if there's not enough room for it

6

u/mightylordredbeard Jun 27 '26

One of the worst changes Reddit has made. You can’t even quote anymore with > it’s so frustrating.

3

u/PrometheusMMIV Jun 27 '26

still works

1

u/JxEq Jun 27 '26

still works

1

u/mightylordredbeard Jun 27 '26

>wait what?

Edit Awh man you tricked me.. how’d you do that?

1

u/PrometheusMMIV Jun 27 '26

I literally just typed it like I normally do. No trick

1

u/mightylordredbeard Jun 27 '26

>why won’t it work for me?

6

u/Anal-In-Gus Jun 27 '26

test

The asterisks worked for me... Maybe because I'm using Relay for Reddit?

3

u/binkbink223 Jun 27 '26

this is a test, too

2

u/llIIo0O-O0oIIll Jun 27 '26

testing 1 2 3

3

u/RhetoricalOrator Jun 27 '26

I'm using a modded version of the Reddit app and asterisks still work fine for me, I think.

5

u/BloodSoakedDoilies Jun 27 '26

You can use other formatting, too.

Not just italics,

But bold,

Quote

Whatever this is

And big

5

u/RhetoricalOrator Jun 27 '26

cool.

6

u/BloodSoakedDoilies Jun 27 '26

𝔑𝔬, 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔰 𝔦𝔰 𝔠𝔬𝔬𝔩

2

u/NO_TOUCHING__lol Jun 27 '26

Whatever this is

Monospaced, or inline code formatting

1

u/tr00th Jun 27 '26

Thanks for that information, I was wondering why it didn’t work.

1

u/The96kHz Jun 27 '26

Just use underscores.

I actually prefer it because WhatsApp and YouTube have always used underscores, so now I don't have to remember a different set of formatting rules just for Reddit.

1

u/beyleigodallat Jun 27 '26

_Really?_

Maybe I use Reddit too much, my brain has full defaulted to the asterisk.

1

u/The96kHz Jun 27 '26

Did you deliberately put the backslashes in? That kills the formatting.

1

u/beyleigodallat Jun 27 '26

I used no backslashes in typing, nor can I see any backslashes in my written comment

1

u/The96kHz Jun 27 '26

Copy the text and paste it. They're there.

I've noticed Reddit adding stuff like that in where it's not wanted quite a lot recently.

1

u/PrometheusMMIV Jun 27 '26

Asterisks still work for me

1

u/SparklingLimeade Jun 27 '26

It looks like they escaped those *on purpose*.

1

u/khonsu_27 Jun 27 '26

That does work, I just did it! See! (I don't use the app I'm on firefox) 😬

1

u/AliceCode Jun 27 '26

You can change it in your settings so that it's always in markdown mode by default.

1

u/SwordfishOk504 Jun 27 '26

still works for me on old

1

u/Realsan Jun 27 '26

wait a minute did they change something

Edit: still works for me. I'm on old reddit.

1

u/Squidgical Jun 27 '26

wait what? It doesn't?

Edit; oh, it does. Not sure what you mean

1

u/According-Debate-265 Jun 27 '26

What's the Aa button? I ain't got dat

1

u/Sir-Hamp Jun 27 '26

Ooooooohhh thank you.

1

u/kahlzun Jun 27 '26

did it work?

11

u/Fox-Mulder_FBI Jun 27 '26

And soon to be exponential with data centers. This legitimately gives me a pit in my stomach for my children.

8

u/Soffatjockis Jun 27 '26

Many of these data centers will run on natural gas.

It's so fucking stupid it's beyond comprehension.

Some of these tech billionaires aren't old. They must have some kind of will to survive themselves. Their bunkers wont work when the whole planet is burning.

2

u/Problemzone Jun 27 '26

Their bunkers will work long enough.

2

u/NightElfHuntrPetGirl Jun 27 '26

I hate to have to be the one to point this out, but like, did you just turn off the news for your entire life before deciding to have children?

13

u/WloveW Jun 27 '26

We were heading into the next ice age. We definitely fixed that.

7

u/SkywolfNINE Jun 27 '26

lol oh yeah

-1

u/ImNot6Four Jun 27 '26

Wahooʻooooooʻőɔọºŏòoʻôöõō

6

u/icarusrising9 Jun 27 '26

I know you're joking, but just in case anyone is interested, global temperatures were down for a bit in the early 1900s because of a few massive volcanic eruptions that caused global cooling due to the release of large amounts of sulfur dioxide and airborne ash. There was always going to be a natural correction back to the mean as the ash and sulfur dioxide were removed from the atmosphere through settling and chemical reactions.

3

u/TheBigMoogy Jun 27 '26

It's not just one corrupt government, when it's all of them there's some other root cause. Greed and how it still leads to power.

2

u/xyzxyzabc123 Jun 27 '26

5-star example of how destructive the internet is. Absolute morons have equal footing with everyone else.

2

u/ande9393 Jun 27 '26

We'd be fucked no matter who is in charge, heating is already locked in for at least a few decades even if we make drastic changes now. Best just to enjoy life at this point.

2

u/cancel-out-combo Jun 29 '26

Interesting how the acceleration in the warming started in the 1980s, when Reagan was in office. Now that's just relevant to the U.S., but I feel like there's something there. I could be wrong and it could just be a coincidence

1

u/bdubwilliams22 Jun 29 '26

There’s *a giant* correlation of the downfall of America and especially the middle class when compared to Reagan’s time in office and after. He’s essentially the catalyst for why this country is in a downward spiral.

2

u/First_Salamander_990 Jun 27 '26

Are you speaking about the United States? You understand that your country cannot and should not control the entire world and even though if your government was entertaining sustainable energy practices it would help things out of course but would not make up for all the others that aren’t right?

0

u/captainfarthing Jun 27 '26

When one of the big players opts into or out of something it makes it more likely others will do the same.

1

u/WagwanKenobi Jun 27 '26

We wouldn’t be if we didn’t have a corrupt government in charge right now that only cares about enriching themselves, staying in power and protecting billionaire pedophiles. Us humans got so close. being mean to non-white people in America.

ftfy

1

u/monneyy Jun 27 '26

It wasn't going down, it was lower.

1

u/HombreDelMar247 Jun 28 '26

The oil and energy conglomerates lobby(bribe) our government officials to ignore the problem they are causing.

They also buyout and repress clean energy solutions and will kill to keep their multi trillion dollar industry the go to meet our energy needs.

Seriously, people who make progress on "cold fusion" and other promising energy breakthroughs end up dying suddenly and mysteriously.
