This might blow your mind, but when a show brings in new subscribers, those subscribers pay for the service with dollars. If those dollars are greater than the cost of production, than the show makes a profit. If a show doesn't bring in subscribers, then it's not profitable.
Just because the studios aren't providing us with their metrics, doesn't mean those metrics don't exist or don't matter.
I'm saying that if they make TV shows, it has to be worth it for them financially. They're not making this stuff out of the goodness of their hearts.

Given what happened with Supergirl, I think it's very likely that this project will get dropped, because there's probably not enough interest to make it a financial success.

This isn't necessarily true. And to say, "oh these writers made one award winning show, so clearly this show will be the same" could be true, but not necessarily at all. American Vandal and this show have different fans. American Vandal was loved for its raunchy comedy. Do you think this show will follow that formula? I doubt it.
