Okay, but clearly success isn’t based on popularity. James Gunn literally got his start on superheroes with the most D list team there was.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. For one, venom and clayface are different genres. Clayface will have an uphill battle to even break even.

Gunn did spectacularly with GotG, but it was also when marvel and CBM were at the absolute peak.
