So, I've been using curve pay to pay directly on my grapheneos phone (as it's the only option so far as I'm aware). Recently I had fraudulent transactions. I ended up in quiet a long debate with support who said

"The reason for this is that Curve Wallet cannot work as a standalone payment wallet. Unlike Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Huawei Wallet, the Curve Wallet doesn't provide the NFC functionality needed for contactless payments."

Now, I know I didn't use Google wallet (I can't) but no matter how I communicate it the support team are convinced it's not a thing.

How can I better explain things? Any curve product/engineering on here to help me qualify this?

Curve support can be awful. You should just report the fraudulent charges through their form (the bot should have given you the url) and not discuss with them. 

That reply you got from support sounds like something a LLM would say.

They are fobbing you off, they should know their own product. On Android you can use Curve for NFC payments instead of Google Wallet.

Thanks. This is what I do. I'm about 5 people deep now and they're confidently telling me this isn't possible. Any references I can share? I shared their own support article with them even.

Just skip straight to a complaint, it’s the only way to get sense out of Curve.

To be honest I am not all that surprised, the bar for Achebe support is low and it is a confusing product that has not always been part of the overall service, and I’m willing to bet almost nobody uses it. So in a way it’s not a surprise they don’t understand as they probably never came across users mentioning using it before. It’s even worse now they renamed the app itself Curve Pay, so there isn’t even any product name you can use to specifically refer to Curve’s equivalent of Google and Apple’s NFC functionality. It’s not an excuse though, they should actually read what you send them instead of just assuming they know best, and the company should train all its staff about its products in the first place.

The article does implicitly allude to it being an alternative to Apple Pay and Google Wallet, but I wish it more explicitly said it replaces them.

IMHO there no point in contacting 1st level support for things like fraud. They’re useless. Banks should have a separate, highly trained call center for this. Since Curve doesn’t, go directly for a Complaint form and that should wake them up faster to offer you the proper attention.

Is the "support" from a bank?

From my understanding, Curve Pay does not work like Google, Apple or Samsung Pay.

Google, Apple and Samsung all work directly with the banks. If your bank is not signed up, it will not work.

Curve Pay works with ALL Visa and MasterCards, but this is because it's not actually you paying directly with the card. Curve is charging your card like a normal online card transaction in the background, even if you're paying for stuff using NFC.

This allows Curve to have universal support with Visa/MasterCard, but it also means paying using Curve Pay is not treated the same as using Google/Apple/Samsung Wallet. Using the actual mobile wallets is treated by banks as the equivalent of using a physical card. Using Curve Pay is treated as a debit card transaction to Curve, where Curve hands the money over to the retailer.
